^ Yes, although I think it will hurt the Americans more. Iran has just ordered 114 Airbus Commercial planes, what happened to ordering Boeing?
I agree with Shaun Bauer's criticism of Hilary Clinton. ( see link below).
I am a liberal, but there is no way I will vote for Hilary. She prides herself on her foreign policy knowledge but would be a catastrophe. I prefer Bernie Sanders, (a Jew) he looks at the issues carefully without bias and without owing AIPAC or other backers favors.

Iran: US imposes new sanctions over missile test

So Obama lifts a sanction, and then applies a new sanction? Well, that is consistent.

It gets even worse because Iran doesn't agree with those sanctions and rightly so ...

He (Mr Ansari) said: "The US sanctions against Iran's ballistic missile programme... have no legal or moral legitimacy."
Mr Ansari added: "America sells tens of billions of dollars of weaponry each year to countries in the region. These weapons are used in war crimes against Palestinian, Lebanese and most recently Yemeni citizens."

Re: Iran nuclear talks: 'Historic' agreement struck

Iran parliament election results starting to drift in.
It is claimed that "reformists" have won all 30 seats in Tehran but likely that rural areas will have more Conservative results.

Situation is not so clear on voting for the Assembly of Experts; results were initially announced as final in an official statement. A later statement said the results were partial and a final tally would be announced in due course.

Let us hope the Govt. does not return to ballot fixing

Hi Greenmount!
[...]
I can't live there as I have asthma.
What's the significance of this with respect to Iran?

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to say you mustn't mention the fact, I'm just curious why "can't go back" seems to be the unconditional and direct consequence.

The agreement looks like it didn't achieve much.

If Iran can enrich Uranium to weapons grade within 5 days, what's the point of the deal ?

20% is a far cry from weapons grade.

Nonetheless the deal's a success as it keeps Iran from even going to 20%.

The deal was supposed to keep Iran from getting nearer to a nuclear weapon. what it achieved (at best) is freezing iran's capability while dropping the sanctions.

So-called US Primary sanctions are still in place, they were never dropped.
Overall, the US strategy in Iran in particular and in the Middle East in general is a total failure. Iran is indeed expanding its influence via Hezbollah, in Iraq and probably trying to develop a nuclear weapon, but this is in order to counter all its enemies in the region. Iran is a multi-millenia old civilization, its not an irrational player as the US is trying to portray it and it will do everything to survive. If you have visited Iran ever you would have been surprised by two things, at least. One is the level of development of the country despite decades of embargo and two, the extent to which the population is NOT aligned with the ayatollahs. Probably the best way to sum up Iran is that Islam was never part of their culture, it was imposed on them with the "revolution" and with Rouhani winning the second term this year, the moderates are gaining further ground.

Re: Iran nuclear talks: 'Historic' agreement struck

Read the statement closely, the headline is pure clickbait.

Salehi says the process for 20% enrichment can be started within five days, he says nothing about production volume. And of course 20% is still far below the 80-90% concentration necessary for a nuclear bomb - the higher the concentration the more difficult further concentration gets.

Since it keeps Iran from taking that path the deal clearly works.

Trita Parsi is always an interesting read on Iran; not that I agree with all he says but he is one of the major players in negotiations.

Also, I returned from CH yesterday, shame that I never got time to meet up with y'all, hopefully next time.

You have a point - the supporters of the deal say that it ensures that Iran is at least a year from producing a bomb if it breaks the deal. Hopefully, it won't happen.

Trump. In May 2018 he abandoned the agreement and by November had gone back to imposing sanctions - despite all other P5+1 leaders & UN concluding Iran had been abiding to the treaty and represented no threat.

Currently UK, France & Germany have all been engaged in attempts to circumvent sanctions & avoid US penalties to continue trade with Iran but unclear to what extent this has helped an economy that has been crippled by US sanctions
