| | Re: Will my bacon kill you? | Quote: | | | | | At the other end of the age spectrum, in some countries, the older you get, the more likely it is you won't die in that particular year as there is such a high likely hood that you will die in childhood. | | | | | This only applies up to late childhood in a few really poor countries.
There are also many incorrect graphs going around showing dramatic decrease in mortality at older ages. From what I can tell that's because they've done the very basic mistake of plotting absolute numbers of deaths - and of course there simply aren't as many older people available to die.
The best graph I've found is the one right at the end of this page: https://www.ssa.gov/oact/NOTES/as120...bles_Body.html
The SLOPE of the graph is the annual mortality - it basically stays fairly level until around 60, then increases significantly, and then slows down again around 100 although that's most likely due to lack of data.
It really nicely shows the dramatic change in childhood mortality, and the gradually decreasing gains overall.
Sadly it doen't have a plot with and without bacon.

Thanks to the IARC, orthorexics the world over have yet another foodstuff about which they can get their knickers in a twist.

Back to the original point ..
I bought some of the non lethal bacon today and a few other meats from the mouth watering selection at Jims in Gland.
It was fantastic, i forced myself to only cook half the pack for lunch. Great flavour, cooks well, minimal shrinkage and no added water to spoil it. It's not cheap stuff but worth it for a treat.
And I didn't die either .. So bonus. | The following 5 users would like to thank for this useful post:

As I understand it, the IARC classification is based on hazard analyses; they are not saying these things cause cancer, but exposure to them significantly increases your risk of contracting cancer at some stage.
I drink (a lot), I smoke (a little), I eat processed meat and I go outside in the sun. Does that mean I will definitely get cancer later in life? Absolutely not, but it probably increases my risk of doing so.

Its a choice you have to make. | | | | | Water does not significantly increase your cancer risk; doesn't mean that too much of it won't kill you though. | This user would like to thank PaddyG for this useful post:
