No, but Islam doesn't even give the option.
Wrong.

An Islamic marriage contract can have whatever clauses either party wishes. There is no 'set' contract.

But dont let facts stop you.

7% of 3000 Australian priests = 210 persons.

Total number of Catholics in Australia = 5.5 million

210/5.5M = 0.003% of Australian Catholics are pedophiles

Guess what is the percentage of muslims who want sharia law, wife beating, agree with terrorist attacks, etc.?

Ben Shapiro? Ie, Breitbart?

Good lord, standards on EF are plummeting.

Load of twaddle

You still haven't answered the fact that it was given to the press, rather than the police?

If the real motivation was safety, why did the recording not get passed to the police?

What motivation might one have to give it to the press, bypassing the police completely?

Where in the Muslim religion a man can beat his wife - but it's ok as it's only as a last resort
Your source for this is the preeminent Islamic scholar, Steve Price? from that reputable institution of unbiased, impartial journalistic beacon of integrity known as "news bite global".

Also, the interviewed man clearly says, "you never actually get to the point where you can beat your wife", as in, you never actually get to the point where it is encouraged or allowed, but then he is cut off. Definitely no misleading going on there.

You are not a smart man.

This is clear, and yet here people are wasting their apparently valuable time debating with him (and loony Phos). If you don't feel someone has any credence then you generally don't waste time responding to them. And yet, people seem to be doing so, and at great length. Daily.

While that's a very smart argument.

Why all the personal stuff? It seems necessary for some members. How does that bring quality here..the sens of self righteousness never persuades anyone

Ben Shapiro is interesting. Breitbart's ex journalist, for a reason.

Now everybody who doesn't feel like bringing any substance to the table can get busy telling me what is wrong with me for actually thinking about Shapiro's ideas. Because thought policing apparently brings the level of EF to new heights. Right?

The Quran states you can beat your wife if they are arrogant and disobey you. How this is interpreted is entirely subjective, however it is allowed.

Nope. That assumes all the remaining 5,499,790 Australian catholics are not pedophiles. Demonstrably incorrect.

It would be equally valid (and equally wrong) to argue that because 7% of one sample of catholics are pedophiles then 7% of the whole population are. All 385,000 of them.

You cannot extrapolate from one population (Catholic priests) to another (Catholic non-priests) and draw any valid conclusion.

Its not meant to be taken literally, and ultimately they are instructed to obey the laws of the land. So that would be domestic abuse and thus prohibited.

Where does it say it shouldn't be taken literally? Anyhow, so many of them do, which is why there are so many problems in the world. And as for the law of the land, when that law is Sharia, there isn't much hope (not to mention all the countries that have no laws against domestic abuse).

The programme it was aired on was actually Sky News Australia. 'News Bites Global' only uploaded it to YouTube

''The interviewed man'' is Keysar Trad, the President of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils.

You fabricated a quote, what he actually said was ''A good person would never get to that step. You never get to step number three''

The point is, why even have the provision to beat your wife? Why not just simply denounce it?
The fact that this clown refused to do so is disgusting and it's a disgrace to any women who have experienced domestic abuse.

Funny you would still try to defend him, he has since come out and apologized

Wrong.

Quote:
3: to beat them (iḍribūhunna and daraba)[edit]
the term iḍribūhunna (usually translated, 'beat them') in 4:34 comes from the root ḍaraba (Arabic: ضرب).[36] The word has been used many times in the Quran to mean: to hit, to travel the earth, to set up, to condemn and to give examples. Thus scholars interpret iḍribūhunna in different ways. Whereas many interpret it to mean "to strike", others hold that the term means "to separate".[35] Such an action is to be administered only if neither the husband nor the wife are willing to divorce.[37] In the context of this verse, iḍribūhunna has also been interpreted to mean "go to bed with them",[38] the Arabic root word "daraba" being taken from the prosaic example "the stud-camel covered the she-camel".[39]
the term daraba is translated by Yusuf Ali as "beat," but the Arabic word is used elsewhere in the Qur'an to convey different meanings. The phrase, "Daraba Allah mathalan" translates to, "Allah gives or sets an example." [40] The use of this word might be compared to the way "to strike" is used in English, which can mean, "to strike a pose," or "to strike a bargain," not just referring to the physical act of hitting something.[41] The use of daraba is also intentional, because a different Arabic word exists, "darraba" which is translated to, "to strike repeatedly or intensely."
The simple fact is that nobody is actually sure what is meant.

When the same word is used for "to hit, to travel the earth, to set up, to condemn and to give examples" as well as "to separate", "to go to bed with", "to strike a bargain with" , nobody of reasonable sense can suggest they know exactly what the phrase means. Not even you, my dear.

And this whole verse is subject to the verse Castro is referring to. If it is outlawed by the law of the land, it is outlawed under Islamic law. While there are exceptions to this, this is not one of them.

Wrong.

He did denounce it.
He apologised for being so clumsy in what he said.

He's guilty of being an idiot, and being very bad at attempting to explain something. Thats about it.

From your own article:

Quote:
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the Islamic leader issued an apology.

"I condemn violence against women – it is never ok to hit a woman," he posted.

"Acknowledging my clumsy attempt to explain a verse from the holy Qur'an, I want to categorically condemn all forms of violence, especially violence against women.

"I condemn and deplore it and stress my continued zeal to support women against violence. I sincerely apologise if my attempt to explain the verse is understood any differently."
Quote:
'Not a man' - Muslim leaders slam Trad
Australia’s Islamic communities have led the criticism levelled at Mr Trad.

Inam ul-Haq Kauser, an imam from Australia's Ahmadiyya Muslim community, told SBS that "hitting or beating is not permitted" in their religion.

"Islam gives full respect and honour in being a mother, being a wife, being a daughter and sister," he said.

"The Holy Prophet Muhammad never hit all his life. He said the best Muslim is 'he who is best with his family'."

Sydney imam Ahmed Abdo was unequivocal in his condemnation of Mr Trad on social media.

"I will stand up, speak out and act to prevent men's violence against women. This is my Oath as an Australian Muslim Imam," he tweeted.

"If you beat your wife, you are not a man."

In a series of subsequent tweets, Mr Abdo continued to let fly at Mr Trad's comments.

"I counselled a married couple today. I told them to beat their own egos, not to beat each other."

If it actually said that it shouldn't be taken literally, then you would also have to take un-literally the part about not taking it literally. In other words, it would then have to be taken literally.

As you are the expert on all things Quranic, how would you reconcile such a contradiction?

I know he's since denounced it - I'm the one that linked the article with his apology He apologized after he came under fire for apparently trying to justify beating ones wife.

The comments led to widespread condemnation, with Mr Trad failing in his first attempt to backtrack.

He told Studio 10 on Thursday it was "a last resort…that you actually never get to", before appearing on other television networks to denounce domestic violence "unequivocally"

I'm no expert, however I do have eyes. Here are some people that take the Quran literally.
