Nurofen ordered off the shelves in Australia

Judge orders all Nurofen products to be taken off the shelves within 3 months in Australia over misleading claims.

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-35090087

"The court said products marketed to treat specific pains, such as migraines, were identical to one another.

Research also found the products were sold for almost double the price of Nurofen's standard product.

Manufacturer Reckitt Benckiser said the case related only to Australia.

It said the ruling would not be applicable in other countries, including the UK."

Well, not yet anyway. I bet they'll all soon be doing some new tests though.

That's why I find out the generic name and buy that. 16x200mg Ibuprofen from England - 16p. (Same in CH - 3 francs... )

Yes, and you also get the same with asprin even in the UK. Some brands way more expensive than a generic one.

That's the premium versions, I always laugh when I see them & look at see what's inside.. Being a shareholder I should not complain if people are stupid, rather like diet dog food at twice the price

No, not "all Nurofen products". The order is to remove Nurofen Back Pain, Nurofen Period Pain, Nurofen Migraine Pain and Nurofen Tension Headache from sale. because they are identical products (all containing 342 mg of the active ingredient ibuprofen lysine) and are priced at almost double the price of "standard" Nurofen -- which is pharmacologically identical.

Standard Nurofen may still be sold in Australia, and of course consumers can still buy any other brand of ibuprofen for way less.

Did you know that Aspirin is itself a brand name registered by Bayer... although it has now become virtually generic for acetylsalicylic acid? Bayer does not hold the trademark in some markets, in which "aspirin" is now generic.

I wonder if there was any placebo effect using these instead of the cheaper normal version

In fact these were homeopathic versions, with precisely nothing, in very dilute form, and a different nothing for each type, having been added to the tablets to make them much more effective against the different indications, but the evil scientists in the administration refused to acknowledge their special properties.

It was also commonly referred to and prescribed as Bayer aspirin in a lot of places for a very long time.

Yes, this has been studied and found to be true - at least comparing top brands vs generics. Not sure about these specific products.

Actually, I meant people easily taken in by these things.

Not sure whether you are trying to be humorous or are on something.

Stop and reorient... then reread Ace1's post. I think you'll be sure then.
