Re: Do you believe in Merkel?

Edeka, a german budget supermarket brand, did something and now, expats based in switzerland who likely never shop there are talking about and discussing it, despite being miles away from Edeka, and miles away from each other.

If it was a publicity stunt, it was a good one.

Why ever, ever mention local economy when we are living in this wonderful, modern, fair and equalitarian world....
Right, I'll transform my Chinese beans into a nice Chili tonight, heard that no-where in Europe do they produce them...but Coop is always there, for me to have a choice.
(really have Chinese kidney beans at home I'm planning to cook lol)
Lol.

Edeka's powerful statement, in fact, was just a globalisation manifesto.

How ordinary and uncool.

It would so not fly a few years back. "Look, we buy nothing home".

I know I quoted Edeka but simply because they underlined what a complex and multiply connected world we live in today. Nationalism is simply not realistic; we have to buy from our neighbours and sell to them.
To achieve that we must mix with them, understand them and share our space with them?
Edeka's publicity stunt has clearly pointed out just how unstable Germany is in regards to food security. They need to diversify!

Wait a minute - in order to buy or sell from others, we need to live together? Maybe i'll offer the spare room to that cute teller girl at the gas station:roll eyes:
Wife won't mind - she's just happy we're able to buy petrol.

Youre making a giant leap of faith, assuming the cute teller girl would accept.

If what you say is true, she'd have numerous offers and yours would not be the most tempting.

Some historians believe that country's used to trade goods and foodstuffs without importing massive amounts of immigrants.

Source? Which historians?

Anyway who said "massive"?

Well historically we were recently discussing the American slave industry using many imported black immigrants, then you have countries like Australia and New Zealand that did require massive amounts of immigrants or even look at Switzerland where a quarter of the population is foreign.

I think none of those would insist on trios.

Or where there customs the newcomers insisted on, "ok, we will come to your lands but you must adopt our ways?"

Did Merkel know she will have to stop wearing a bikini on a beach to not offend some lunatics? Well, it is a bit nippy up north at the Baltic sea.

Im pretty sure Frau Merkel has no inclination to wear a bikini and go paddling in the North Sea...

Probably one of the better arguments for unfettered immigration to be fair.

How tiny is it, does anyone even know that. Or wants to know...probably they do, but pete forbid that the general tax paying population knows the risks they will have to live with.

However. Nobody wants anyone who is not guilty of any act of terrorism to "pay". This is one of the favourite strategies to distort any critical discussion on a policy that most people (if they are to be open and honest about it) don't agree with. Imposing immigrants quotas without having any protocol implemented in order to protect own interests, just because Merkel, who is not even the jury head of EU, says so.

Isn't it ironic that you want to impose others what your native UK has brilliantly managed to avoid?

Again, I'm born in the '80s, never lived in London and don't relate to any of the experiences of a tiny minority with the Irish terrorism. However, I know that when "terrorism" started in the neighbouring countries, NATO just bombed the heck out of them. In order to avoid not punishing a tiny minority or terrorists, what for.

The hypocrisy.................please, carry on.
"How tiny is it" Well there are over 20 million Muslims in Europe and there were three deadly terrorist incidents in 2016.
Source
So tiny is less than one in a million!

This is quite similar to the chance of being hit by a meteorite!
The odds of being struck by lightning in your lifetime is between 1 in 3,000 and 1 in 12,000 depending on which analysis you believe, the odds of this killing you is 10%!

I guess that is a diva behavior (high earning royalty). How dare you compare that to those suffering mass immigrants that have been shipped to Aus, US, etc.

Complaining does not mean they cannot adapt, btw.

I also know complainers tend to think about stuff more and at the end also improving the new, host system. That's what diva status secures, maybe, the right to have your new environment adjust to you, if your suggestions merit. One has to be an achiever for that, first, though. Not just a complainer. Victim culture tends to discourage achievements since they discredit its theory.

I am also amazed that there's such support for Merkel after the last years. Or is this due the poor competition?
People voted for May in the UK, despite her abysmall performance (and Cameron's before her), why would Germans not vote for Merkel at a time when most of them are fairly satisfied with their lives?
It is short-sighted, yes, but this is how people vote.

I am not saying I agree with them, I am saying that it is very expected and you shouldn't be amazed.
