Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in

Gina Miller has apparently been subjected to what an observer interprets as racist abuse on entering court. She has been being escorted by bodyguards. What a sad indictment on the state of British society.

"Barrister and legal commentator Jo Maugham, who was at the Supreme Court for yesterday's proceedings, says Gina Miller - who is leading one of the appeals, faced 'visceral hatred' outside court on day one.

He notes similar abuse was not directed at other (white) anti-Brexit campaigners such as Joanna Cherry, who is leading the Scottish case."

Boris takes a leaf from Trump's playbook and threatens the UK Supreme Court.
Separation of powers seems to be fading in English speaking nations

Seriously?! Tell me this isn't true.. we joke about him being unprofessional and incompetent, but...
He's a master delegator surrounded by incompetence, and I'll keep saying this, there's not a single minister with a science background in his cabinet.

More good news, inflation if falling once again in the UK. Clearly exchange rate has little effect as goods are already sold for the maximum the market will stand.

"Inflation slid to its lowest level for almost three years in August, on the back of tumbling computer games prices and a slowdown in price increases for clothing."

I always knew it would be up to Rockstar to save the UK Economy. We'd better hope they nail GTA 6, or the UK is fooked.

Although it went up in between and has had the odd dip as well whenever BJ opened his mouth, the pound is now at pretty much the same rate to the Euro as a year ago. So why should there be an FX impact on the current UK inflation rate?

Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in

It looks like Johnson had a Raab moment the other day

Quote:
Boris Johnson 'surprised' by level of Irish border checks
EU sources say PM seemed taken aback when shown implications of his Brexit plan

Boris Johnson expressed surprise to his advisers during lunch with Jean-Claude Juncker as he was informed about the scale of checks still needed on the island of Ireland under his alternative plan for the Irish border, according to EU sources.

The two-hour lunch in Luxembourg was said by both sides to have been “positive” but EU officials conceded the advantage for them had been in being able to spell out the problems directly to the prime minister. “It seems to have helped the penny drop,” said one diplomatic source.

During talks with Juncker and the EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, the prime minister was shown in detail how allowing Northern Ireland to stick to common EU rules on food and livestock, known as sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS), would still fail to avoid checks on the vast majority of goods that cross the Irish border.

Downing Street has described as “nonsense” a report in the Financial Times that Johnson turned to his chief negotiator, David Frost, and the Brexit secretary, Stephen Barclay, and said: “So you’re telling me the SPS plan doesn’t solve the customs problem?”

One should never make assumptions.

I do know a lot about the GTA series though, so don't worry, the UK will be fine, it's a billion quid product.

Rockstar will remain as one of the latest in a long list of Scottish institutions propping up the UK

Probably means the Aussies are demanding FMOP in order for the UK to get a trade deal. Wonder what they will demand in order to withdraw their obligations to the UKs trade schedules at the WTO.
