| | Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in | Quote: | | | | | these people live in cuckoo land, since when was it down to the government to bail out a travel agent?? the writing has been on the wall for thomas cook for years, way too many high street shops with way too high overheads, inept directors who pay dividends and bounus's while the company are making huge losses. And what would have happened of they where given a blank cheque? would they pay off their debts and streamline the company, would they bollocks, it would be big fat bonus's all round and then the same again this time next year.
If the government really want to sort out the mess on the high street then would get rid of business rates, get rid of red tape, stop local councils charging a fortune for parking in town while allowing more development of out of town retail parks with free parking. but of course they won't as short term cash is king and these people are idiots.
All high st chain shops are dead, unless you're a coffee shop, forget it.
so in short, nothing to do with brexit and more to do with incompetent management. | | | | | Nothing to do with Brexit! I wrote Brexit was the final straw.
Perhaps you are not familiar with the expression? "The final straw that broke the camel's back".

Really? I would have thought Farage would have been in favour of the prorogation. Has he changed his tune?
Edit: Parliament was prorogued on 9 September and I can't see any comment on Farage's twitter feed around that time condemning or even commenting on the prorogation. This suggests that he was quite OK with it before and is now seeking to make political capital from the court ruling.

Know thy enemy. Cummings and Farage hate each other. And self interest: Farage wants his political life to continue and wants to avoid being wiped out by Boris. He'd almost vote remain, lol, so he can happily bleat on about brexit and the hateful EU for the next 20 years.

Just done further perusal of Farage's Twitter feed and found evidence of him effectively endorsing prorogation.
Now: "The calling of a Queen's Speech and prorogation is the worst political decision ever. Dominic Cummings must go." https://twitter.com/Nigel_Farage/sta...36372045029376
Then (11 September, two days after prorogation), he comments on the Scottish court ruling that parliamentary suspension was unlawful: "How can a Queen’s Speech be unlawful? The establishment will stop at nothing to frustrate the will of the people." https://twitter.com/Nigel_Farage/sta...58506845884416 | The following 4 users would like to thank Reb77Br for this useful post: | |
