This fails to answer the point that there is no statement of how Art. 50 should be formally delivered. EU law is basically Napoleonic but has precedent mixed in from ECJ decisions.
On the constitutional issue that purely a matter for the U.K., it is not the EU's fault the the U.K. choose to have an unwritten form of government. It is not a question of fault, it is a matter of the correct process to follow. Since this point is written into EU law then presumably the EU should ensure their rules are correctly followed? | | | | | Hopefully the Supreme court decision will be delivered sooner rather than later.

Sajid Javid proposes 'British values oath' in wake of Casey review of social integration
Public office-holders should take oath on values such as democracy and equality, says communities secretary
Javid also wants all migrants, not just those seeking UK citizenship, to swear an oath of allegiance Source
And no doubt swear on a Christian bible |

They will also have to learn the secret handshake so we know who has sworn; the other option of tattooing their foreheads is probably too expensive!!
Anyway I would like to volunteer to administer these oaths; say £5 per head plus expenses and tips. I should be able to knock up a few million quid relatively quickly.

| | Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in Irish Passport Applications continue to rise!
Passport applications were up over 100% from the UK last month, with no indication that the trend is changing. I could not find stats for the US, but apparently consular services there are reporting a dramatic increase in applications too.
Hope they all don't decide to visit at once!!!!! |

What I find interesting on that poll is that they apparently make no attempt to rebase their result to the actual voting pattens of their sample. This would be a simple and obvious way to eliminate sampling error but they fail to do it.

According to the artcle, only 17% of Exit voters think they will be worse off. | | | | | The 3rd chart says 44% expect to be worse off fnancially by Brexit, of which 17% (as per the text) would vote to Leave nonetheless. Thus 7-8% of the population would vote Leave despite expecting to be hurt financially. And yet teh 2nd paragraph says:
"47% of British adults say they would vote Leave, with 45% saying they would choose to Remain, even though nearly half of them expect the decision to hurt them financially."
To me the article doesn't make sense, the numbers don't add up. I think the bolded part is just plain wrong as it implies that almost half of all Brexiters expect to be hurt financially, the author should take a math course or two.

| | Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | Well honestly it is hard to understand where any of this kind of nonsense is coming from and why the press is not pushing them on it. I mean article 3 of the treaty of from clearly states that requirement for the free movement of all elements of production and article 50 clearly states that the treaties cease, 'a' or 'the' treaty....
What she and her like are proposing would be about the same as say Scotland deciding that it is only Scots can work in Scotland, all taxes collected in Scotland will remain in Scotland. Scotland should have full access to the UK for trade purposes and oH ja, the UK should continue to pay for everything as the currently do.
Even if the EU negotiation team wanted to they can negotiate those points away.
