Art. 50 states the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union.
It shall be concluded on behalf of the Union by the Council, acting by a qualified majority, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament.

It seems that the EU acting by a qualified majority could guarantee the rights of UK citizens within the EU?
You can repeat it as often as you like but there is nothing there to all the member states to change an existing treaty by anything but the prescribed methods.

Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in

Well the public reaction to May's speech has been positive overall and she's received a bump in her approval ratings too. Labour are floundering and if there were an election tomorrow the Tory's would probably ease to a 100 plus majority.

The reassuring thing is that Brexit will happen. May knows she can call an election anytime and win at a canter. Hell, she could even call another referendum just for the lolz.

Trying to catch here, so I Googled FMOP:

Frequency Modulation On Pulse
Facilities Management Operating Policies
Fuzzy Multiple Objective Programming
Fashion Mother of Pearl
Fair Maintainable Operating Profit

I suppose that it could be Fuzzy Multiple Objective Programming, sounds about right, but probably not. Can some kind soul enlighten me? I'm feeling lazy...

From the same link, most people do not believe May will be successful to get the deal she wants so it is all a pointless discussion?

Nothing is publicly available about what Nissan was promised but I doubt they were encouraged by May's speech

From the FT today about May's visit planned soon to Trump
Quote:
Theresa May to emphasise value of EU and Nato to Trump
Source

And from the article

Quote:
Mrs May said: “The decision taken by the UK was not a decision about breaking up the EU. I want the EU to continue to be strong and I want to continue to have a close and strategic partnership with the EU.
Sorry to disappoint you boys

All those expecting a nice friendly trade deal for the UK with the US might want to read Trump's speech today. USA first, all others can swivel on it.

A lot depends on Trump getting a second term! Realistically the U.K. is not going to be in a position to do a deal for four or five years. In fact trying to do a deal with Trump in election year would almost impossible!

Interesting poll from Sky
http://news.sky.com/story/sky-news-p...arket-10732707
51% Support
39% Against
10% Don't know

So much for people voting leave regretting their decision.

If they polled their viewership, then that's obvious. It's a Murdoch owned right-wing outlet. In fact, if that is the case, I'd reckon 51% in favour is a big drop-off.

EDIT:
"Sky Data interviewed a nationally representative sample of 1,068 Sky customers by SMS"

Also from the Telegraph article "Mr Trump’s team want to create a photograph opportunity to rival the famous images of President Ronald Reagan horse riding with the Queen at Windsor Castle when he visited in the 1982."

I assume bare chested like his boss?

And from today's Telegraph
Quote:
Theresa May and Donald Trump will this week hold talks over a US-UK trade deal that slashes tariffs and makes it easier for hundreds of thousands of workers to move between the two countries.
Source

Surreal isn't it? May is demanding easier immigration from the US!
If every new post Brexit trade deal includes similar clauses then the immigration due to EU FMOP will look tiny!!

I expect the EU will be chuffed, not!

That one is worth protesting. Americans have no idea how whiny and anti-democratic those people are.
