Do you intend to leave Switzerland because of brexit ?
Yes!!! Definitely. Brexit will have a huge impact on Switzerland. Also, I'm afraid, on the Central African Republic, which was my next choice. Now I am planning to move to Kiribati, which I believe will be safe for the next 3.7 years or so.

Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in

Quote:
The hopes of British fishermen that the UK can win its “waters back” after Brexit are expected to be dashed by the European parliament, despite the campaign promises of Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage, a leaked EU document reveals.

MEPs have drafted seven provisions to be included in Britain’s “exit agreement”, including the stipulation that there will be “no increase to the UK’s share of fishing opportunities for jointly fished stocks [maintaining the existing quota distribution in UK and EU waters]”.
Seems possible that Farage led Fishermen "up the garden path" rather than into a bright new future!

Quote:
Chief Brexiteer Nigel Farage of UKIP led a flotilla of fishermen up the Thames to complain about the EU. Many in the fishing industry campaigned for Brexit.

“Promises have been made and expectations raised during the referendum campaign and it is now time to examine if and how they can be delivered,” the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations told The Guardian.

Given that the vote already took place last June I don't think you really need to worry about which way to vote.

They're also American so couldn't vote in a UK issue anyway.

Just spamming the forum for some as yet unknown reason (my guess is the Marketplace though) with several posts in a short space of time.

BREXIT creates employment - for 200+ new staff at the Irish Passport Office!

It's an ill wind... as they say.

From your link, creates employment?

However, the number of people in work slipped by 9,000 to just over 31.8 million, the ONS said.
I assume this means the number of unemployed is lower because many of them have moved to Ireland

Oh no! this seems to be some kind of poll

Quote:
The unemployment figures are based on the Labour Force Survey in which the ONS talks to about 40,000 households, or 100,000 individuals, every three months.

A rather important caveat to that survey:
Quote:
The unemployment figures are based on the Labour Force Survey in which the ONS talks to about 40,000 households, or 100,000 individuals, every three months.

As it is a survey, the results are estimates and have a margin of error.

For example, the ONS is 95% confident that its estimate of a fall in unemployment of 52,000 is correct to within 81,000.

That means we cannot say with 95% confidence that unemployment has fallen at all, so the drop is described as not being statistically significant
So every single change number reported in the article is too small to be remotely meaningful.

I'm not so sure it is. If anyone can have the EU Leave stopped it would be something headed by Tony Blair. He might be roundly hated in many quarters but he has the leadership which almost every single politician of all current parties clearly lacks. Even though everyone is scoffing that he could have the nerve to re-emerge into the limelight, I personally would say this is the biggest challenge to leaving the EU yet, not a bunch of halfwit failed politicians shouting at each other.

Blair comes with charisma and a very definite ability to lead. If I were in the Leave camp I would be concerned.

GM warns of more cuts in Europe as Brexit bites.
The fall in sterling and softening vehicle demand will cost the company $300m in the final three months of the year.
Vauxhall’s UK plant at Ellesmere Port, which makes the Astra hatchback, is heavily reliant on EU sales, as around 80 per cent of the 120,000 cars produced at the site are exported to other member states.
GM already cut production at two mainland European plants that make models popular in Britain.

Source
Now GM plans to sell its Europe operations (Vauxhall and Opel) probably to Peugeot.
GM is loss making in Europe so Peugeot is likely to concentrate on cost cutting, worrying times

It is also amazing how easily the voters forgive and forget! One would have thought that the party that lead Ireland into the bail out would never be heard from again, but no they are little by little regaining and there is every chance they will be in a position to lead the next government come the elections.

I'd be more inclined to believe those polls if they actually managed to get numbers adding up to 100.
