Would you be so relaxed about it if the BNP won 20 seats in the House of Commons?

Like I said, I see nothing to celebrate here, but I'm delighted that other people can find some joy in a far-right party having 20 seats in a European national assembly.
Why go so far away? Here the anti immigration, antiEU, anti Islam SVP got 29% of the votes in the last election

Not complacent!

Like i said, you cant compare the performance of one party in a political system with that of another party in another political system.

Case in point - The SVPs last initiative to prevent 3rd generations immigrants failed miserably.

You cant say the SVP, with 29%, have as much power in Switzerland as PVV would have in NL if they had 29% of the popular vote there, or in the BNP had 29% of the popular vote in the UK.

I know what you're trying to say, that their ideologies are similar, and they are. But the systems they play in are very, very different, so its not an apt comparison.

So, a politician managed to get a political issue discussed by the political establishment?

What a crushing blow for the political establishment.
UKIP forced a referendum despite only polling 12.5%.
This entire election was fought on national identity and immigration. If you can't see the significance of this then there is little point in discussing further with you.

Because apart from UKIP, no other parliamentarians wanted out of the EU? Seriously?

Yeah, over 75% of them wanted to remain. Which other party apart from UKIP ran an explicitly leave EU campaign?

ERm...all of them?

Quote:
Vote Leave was created in October 2015 by political strategists Matthew Elliot and Dominic Cummings as a cross-party campaign, including members of Parliament from Conservatives, Labour, and UKIP. Labour MP Gisela Stuart served as chairman and leader of the Vote Leave Campaign Committee as Co-Convenor with Michael Gove MP. The campaign was also supported by a number of prominent politicians, including Boris Johnson who became a key figurehead for Vote Leave.

With Remainers as committed as Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn, I'm shocked that "75%" didn't triumph.

Now for the terminally deluded on here, here's a nice picture to illustrate how the Netherlands swung in this week's elections. Orange is to the left, blue to the right.

When Marine Le Pen waltzes the first round of the French elections I'm sure marton, J2488, and baboon will be along to tell us what a victory it is for progressive social democratic politics.

The result of the first round is not such a big deal. After the disasters that Sarkozy and Hollande have been, the electorate are understandably looking for a way to revolt. However, 2nd round is polling 62% Macron/38% Le Pen. Another domino refusing to fall there. Such a shame for the Steve Bannon fanboys.

Wilder's party had 24 seats in 2010 and now they have 20, but you still try to claim this is a great victory?

There is only one deluded person here

Based on current polling the FAR RIGHT has the largest support of any party in France and you see that as not a big deal.

As long as Le Pen isn't president everything is fine.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Sorry to disappoint you. You'll have to look elsewhere for a delusional socialist that you can laugh at.

You might like to consult a cardiologist. Continuous anger is very bad for the heart.

Proposals will reveal full details for how the Government will end the rule of European law by introducing legislation dubbed the “Great Repeal Bill”.
So-called “Henry VIII clauses” give the Government powers to change old laws that have already been passed by Parliament.

However critics say they avoid scrutiny and - crucially - circumvent the Lords because it means less parliamentary debate than usual.

Well unless the U.K. is going to pony up the €60b or so to honor it's commitments under the current budget, I can't see the EU parliament approving a deal, even if the council were to agree.
