Like I said, I see nothing to celebrate here, but I'm delighted that other people can find some joy in a far-right party having 20 seats in a European national assembly. | | | | | Why go so far away? Here the anti immigration, antiEU, anti Islam SVP got 29% of the votes in the last election
Not complacent!

Not complacent! | | | | | Like i said, you cant compare the performance of one party in a political system with that of another party in another political system.
Case in point - The SVPs last initiative to prevent 3rd generations immigrants failed miserably.
You cant say the SVP, with 29%, have as much power in Switzerland as PVV would have in NL if they had 29% of the popular vote there, or in the BNP had 29% of the popular vote in the UK.
I know what you're trying to say, that their ideologies are similar, and they are. But the systems they play in are very, very different, so its not an apt comparison.

What a crushing blow for the political establishment. | | | | | UKIP forced a referendum despite only polling 12.5%.
This entire election was fought on national identity and immigration. If you can't see the significance of this then there is little point in discussing further with you.

With Remainers as committed as Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn, I'm shocked that "75%" didn't triumph.

Now for the terminally deluded on here, here's a nice picture to illustrate how the Netherlands swung in this week's elections. Orange is to the left, blue to the right.
When Marine Le Pen waltzes the first round of the French elections I'm sure marton, J2488, and baboon will be along to tell us what a victory it is for progressive social democratic politics. |

After the disasters that Sarkozy and Hollande have been, the electorate are understandably looking for a way to revolt. However, 2nd round is polling 62% Macron/38% Le Pen. Another domino refusing to fall there. Such a shame for the Steve Bannon fanboys.

| | | | | Wilder's party had 24 seats in 2010 and now they have 20, but you still try to claim this is a great victory?

As long as Le Pen isn't president everything is fine.
Move along. Nothing to see here.

So-called “Henry VIII clauses” give the Government powers to change old laws that have already been passed by Parliament.
However critics say they avoid scrutiny and - crucially - circumvent the Lords because it means less parliamentary debate than usual. | | | | | Source
Gets weirder!
