Is it correct that since article 50 has been triggered, in the event of a change in the UK, the EU can insist on Brexit even if the UK asks to take it back?
It would be so cool to make them give up some of their privileges if they change their mind and decide to stay. |

Of course, we all knew that being part of Single Market but without the regs and free movement of people would NOT be possilble. It was clear right from the start to anyone who did their few minutes of homework, and listen to Prof Dougan - and even more so for any of us in Switzerland- who has and still is, trying to sort this out since Feb 2014.
So which was it when the Leavers even at the very top said 'leaving the single market' would never happen?
A) Were they really that gullible, stupid and ignorant?
B) Or did they, again, deliberately lied to sway the vote?
Please vote A) or B)

I think it is very hard to call!
- Did BJ lie when he claimed that FMOP was not in the treaty? Or is it the case that he has never examined the treaty, never been briefed on it. I think it probably is! If so how can he expect to be able to negotiate on it???
- At another point we had TM complaining that Merkel would not give her a commitment on the status of UK persons in Europe, despite the fact that Merkel has no legal competence on the matter... who briefed her (TM) or was she just making it up as she went along
- And then we had the challenge in the high court and the supreme court, who consulted TM on that - first year law students??? If TM was acting on the best legal advice available to the government, then people should be afraid, very afraid of the legal advice being given to the UK team during the negotiations.
I'm going to go with A and a blinding belief that it will so how come right if they stick to their guns.

| | Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in | Quote: | | | | Two things there....:
1. It's a decent boost, yes, but a long way from dependent on. Theres many more Germans going there, for example. And given the relative collapse in tourist numbers to Tunisia, Egypt and Turkey the whole northern side of the Med is basically full with or without the Brit tourists
2. The retirees only pay off as long as the UK picks up their health bills. If after Brexit this is no longer the case they become a liability. | | | | | Two things.
First the numbers. Sure there are loads of Germans and Belgians and other nationalities in Spain. But Brits are by far the biggest group. The others are not going to compensate that.
Second
Healthcare in Spain is actually cheaper than in the uk. So Britain will gladly continue paying those bills. Way cheaper than having all those pensioners return home. Especially seeing that many bought their homes in the property bubble and forcing them to sell now would create poverty.
Gibraltar is above all a question of patriotism, nationalism and pride. For both sides. But more so for Spain. And so far Britain and Spain have got on just fine while grandstanding about it when the opportunity arose, but fully understanding that in the interests of pragmatism, it wasn't going to get in the way of real business.
Even if they pretend otherwise, both sides also know that if there is going to be a change in the status of Gibraltar, it's going to have a price.

The government is under intense cross-party pressure to guarantee that EU nationals will still be able to work in the NHS, as concern grows that Brexit will cause a critical shortage of nurses and doctors.
Labour’s health spokesman, Jon Ashworth, highlighted NHS data showing that there are 22,081 EU nationals working as nurses in an NHS which is struggling to fill 26,000 vacancies. “This NHS crisis will be compounded if the 140,000 EU nationals working in the NHS and social care sector walk away" Source |

Won't there be enough "nationals" willing to get up at the crack of dawn to go and wipe old people's bottom for the minimum wage? |
