Just you watch. | | | | | I disagree on the sequence.
Brexit WILL happen, the UK will leave the EU, it will be hell, and a few years later you will be begging to be admitted back to the club, with no special status (so yes, Euro, Schengen and the rest).
The only difference will be driving on the left.
The alternative is no Brexit. Then you can keep your precious GBP and passport controls at the airports.

What does GBP have to do with anything? There are other EU countries that have not adopted the Euro!
Of course Brexit will happen (and hopefully a hard Brexit)! There will be no begging to be let back in though. It will be a couple of decades before there's any talk of such utter nonsense. Who knows if even Schengen and the Euro will still be in existence by then!

Do you overreact to everything like this in real life, too?

Existing members can continue without it. https://ec.europa.eu/neighbourhood-e...-the-acquis_en | The following 4 users would like to thank baboon for this useful post: | |

Well if this is what is delivered by May, it is going to come a cross as an attempt at cheap point scoring rather that a serious objection to the ECJ....

The European Union has fined Google €2.42bn (£2.14bn) after a seven-year investigation into claims the technology giant abused its internet search monopoly. Source

Maybe the EU are not such wicked people after all | | | | | Google's reaction: Yaawn. By the time they're reached at, the technology has already moved on, ask Microsoft et al. Anyway, the fine is just 10% of this year's net earnings.
These verdicts are way way way too late and the fine way too small, assuming monetary fines are of much use to begin with. Perhaps confiscating the revenues earned by illegal practices (or even a multiple thereof) would help. What would probably work is if top management was held personally responsible.

Think 5%, and if they only get caught once every 5 years, it's more like 1% per year. | Quote: | | | | | These verdicts are way way way too late and the fine way too small, assuming monetary fines are of much use to begin with.

Take Vasella, he must have earned something between 300mln to 1bln during his time CEO+chairman at Novartis. What kind of fine would it take to affect his behaviour and actions?
Conversely, looking at two years in prison, and seeing the neighbor actually being sentenced to exactly that, would probably have the same effect on him(top management in general) as on everybody else.

What is the reason for the slowdown of the British economy? UK economy officially EU’s worst performertd
Is it May's incompetence? Did she have enough time to screw the economy?
Is it the result of 7 years of Tory austerity (so Cameron more to blame than May)?
Or is Brexit finally sinking in?

According to 20min today here the future situation of UK citizens living here and for Swiss living in UK is not clear and will not be part of the UK/EU Brexit discussions.
The article says there needs to be a new agreement between UK and Switzerland on this topic and many other topics. Because EU members are not allowed to make agreements with 3rd countries then it is not clear when such negotiations could start
The Swiss federal council hope to make a transitional arrangement, where did I hear this before? |

And if they were to somehow find a way around they could expect that other third countries would demand the same.

“This offers a significantly reduced level of protection than their current status as EU citizens in the UK under EU law,” notes the paper.
If this were adopted for EU citizens in the UK, it would also apply to Britons in Europe.
The campaigners go on to point out that the offer fails to recognise that the French, Spanish, Italians, Polish and other EU citizens came to the UK legally and cannot under current EU law have their rights stripped away retrospectively.
“EU citizens will be required to apply for UK settled status, whereas they are in fact resident in the UK on the basis of existing, acquired rights under EU law. The UK should in fact be simply confirming rights that have already been acquired, which is the approach taken in the EU negotiating directives,” says the paper. In the video there, May does mention Switzerland alongside other countries like Norway.
I for one am distinctly unimpressed with the woman's stance.

| | Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | And here's a nasty bit: However, it again warns that if the UK introduces a minimum wage threshold, this would put at risk any EU citizen in the UK on low wages, including part-time workers and people on zero-hour contracts, and disabled people.
The paper also raises concerns over the wording on pensions, saying it suggests pensions accrued across several countries will be paid out but only up to the day of the UK leaving the EU. The Brexit date is uncomfortably near my retirement age. That could just mess things up good and proper for me. |
