Why is in embarrassing for HRH, she is not liable to tax...... whoever has chosen to pay some voluntary a few years ago.

Just to remind you there is nothing illegal in anyone investing offshore, only failing to report & pay any tax lability is illegal unless your Swiss tax resident where tax evasion is usually not a crime.
Why is it embarassing for the Monarch of a nation, who is now only a figurehead and still in place by goodwill alone, to have taken wealth from said country and stashed it overseas? Have another try.

Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in

Lord Ashcroft is NOT keen on discussing this, is he?

https://youtu.be/SMBXARpIqME

HRH is supposed to be a rôle model for all- she is very clear on that. And yes, the legal situation about tax avoidance is wrong-
why should 'normal' people have no choice but to pay their taxes fully and digilently- and the very rich have a choice?

And of course, this is what Brexit is all about- avoiding new EU regulations to rack down on tax evasion and so called 'avoidance'- more and more are realisiing now that for the very rich who manipulated the vote - that was the issue indeed:

,In this truly alarming story I connect three significant articles to show that Brexit, far from being the result of representative democracy, is in fact a campaign of covert intervention by foreign billionaires to bring about economic chaos in Britain in order create the circumstances for making huge profits. This is not the stuff of mere conspiracy theories. Clear evidence has emerged that Brexit was engineered and is already proving to be a catastrophe, as confirmed by the mainstream media frenzy over Theresa May’s political mis-management of the greatest post-war challenge of our time. In part-one (by left leaning, The Guardian newspaper) we see how Brexit really came about and who influenced it. In part-two (by centre newspaper The Independent) we see how opaque and deceptive think tanks have heavily influenced Brexit and in part-three (by right leaning EUReferendum) we see that economic chaos is being planned in a post-Brexit era, who is involved and why. These articles identify the actors behind the current attack on Britain and what has happened to date so far. At the end, the reader should get a sense of the impending disaster being constructed by the super-rich against the people of Britain purely for profit. Just as oil speculators pushed up global energy prices to $145 a barrel just prior to the financial crash in what was termed the London Loophole, and then profited from short bets on the way down – Britain is being set up for a fall where those with big money will ultimately clean up.,

Trump adviser Ross says UK-US trade deal will mean scrapping EU rules

Quote:
Geographic indicators on food products, the registration and documentation of chemical exports, as well as automotive industry standards and trade tariffs are also “key impediments” to expanded trade, he said. “Something we hope to be able to quickly fix between our two countries,” he added.
The bigger guy always gets to dictate the terms.... We'll just have to wait and see how much the Tories are willing to sacrifice for the deal..

It's not 'stached' it's invested in a fund thats a British / ex British territory where the Queen is / was head of state.

50% of world tax heavens are of British origin, the biggest being the UK for non doms. Then we have Jersey, Gurnsey IOM, Ireland, BVI, Bermuda to name a few, then there is Malta that has been independent for over 50 years, only foreign country the Queen ever lived in.

Switzerland & Liechtenstein are also to huge Tax havens, Odile will always forget this

Isle of Man is nothing new, it's not part of the UK & it's not in the EU but does have a VAT deal. Jersey is outside the EU with no VAT deal.

My point was simply that it was embarassing. That is clearly undeniable.

The financial conduct of an anachronism who is living off the largesse of her "subjects" because her great grandad 10 times removed was good at fighting must be unimpeachable. She isn't doing anything illegal, however investing in offshore funds to avoid tax (and said funds having investments in somewhat dubious companies) doesn't look great.

I generally don't have much confidence in politicians, but when they do change laws I tend to prefer when it is done deliberately.

Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in

It depends by whom and for what reasons- no? Politicians are not supposed to be bought by lobbying and vested interests- in my book.

Meanwhile, the message is be careful what you wish for. You just could not make this up. Welsh farmers and farmers in general, Cornwall, and so many more who voted 'leave' suddenly realise how it is going to it them Now it is Grimsby fishermen, who voted 'leave' massively:

The port town of Grimsby is seeking Brexit exemption for its seafood industry, despite voting overwhelmingly to leave the European Union in the referendum.

MPs were this week told that seafood should be given special free trade status after Brexit to ensure Grimsby’s industry is not damaged.

Key figures from the industry descended on Westminster to provide the Government with their vision for leaving the EU, outlining how they might tackle several challenges posed by a hard Brexit. (From the London EconomIC).

(Edit) -so, will it be a Summer of discontement, as Brown forecasts- or will it actually start long before, in Winter?

But the industry spokespeople may be hoisted by its own workforce – as the town voted overwhelmingly to leave the EU in the referendum in 2016.

Trump said he wanted to hold bilateral free-trade talks with the TPP nations, he hasn’t been able to persuade a single country to start.

The lack of progress in one-on-one trade deals with Asian countries not only shows the limitations of Trump’s “America First” trade policy, but potentially puts the U.S. in a weaker position as other countries band together to forge trade deals without the United States.

Never mind, I am sure the UK will be very successful at persuading Asia nations to hold bilateral free-trade talks

The raison d'être for politics is "Interessenvertretung", getting the best for the group(s) the respective politician represents.

I would agree though that lobbying can have very detrimental effects. Very often though that's also because the opponents are passive.

Not at all.

I'd agree that competition is good where a market exists, i.e. numerous informed and agile actors with the ability to walk away exist on both sides of the potential transaction.

There's zero market WRT taxes except for a very wealthy few.

Everybody can choose where they live & work especially with free movement. Plenty of Polish people have managed to find the Tax Credits system in the UK a good deal, I don't think you can describe those peoples wealthy.

Sicilian waiters flock to Malta, there is work & lower deductions than Italy.

The very poor & very rich do move, around, the risk averse middle classes may believe it's not possible for themselves, when clearly it is.

And furthermore, you don't need all people to move around for tax competition to work. The threat of people moving can sometimes also cause policy changes.

The UK Government has offered the world’s largest oil company a $2bn (£1.5bn) loan guarantee as the battle to host the Saudi oil giant’s market debut drags on.

The Treasury has admitted to finalising the details of the deal which comes amid a fierce battle between the world’s largest exchanges to secure what could prove to be the world’s largest initial public offering.
