Prof Dougan is THE expert on EU Law and is really worth listening to.
The Irish question, a fudge, and one side will have to be VERY disappointed with the outcome- as a solution that would be good for all is feasibly impossible. http://parliamentlive.tv/event/index...3-801f0a7f3178 |

Or remain in the EU, which after all is what they voted for.

And it's all Theresa May and her party's fault for managing to screw up that election this year.

Damian Green has resigned- but will remain as MP as Tories just can't afford the risk of a by-election.
Now let's see if David Davis will stand by his promise to resign himself if Green was pushed.
Or could it be if was just lying, as per normal ... hmmm

More lies from David Davis. He said he'd resign if Damian Green was forced out of his position. He hasn't.
So, so far it's just his own career that Damian Green has ruined, single-handedly.

Was that last bit a Freudian slip?
Agreed- David Davis has shown, again and again, that he is a liar who can't be trusted- and who is flying by the seat of his pants and his arrogance. Bad enough that he lied to us, 'the people' and to our representatives in the House- but his lying and incompetence has not been un-noticed by Barnier and all in the EU - and he has caused massive damage to the negotiations.
And now, his bluffing about resigning if Green was pushed, has, again, been shown to be just that - and that he is not, and never will be, true to his word or to anyone. To my mind, he should have been sacked a long time ago- and 100x more so than Green.

| | Re: The Brexit referendum thread: potential consequences for GB, EU and the Brits in | Quote: | | | | | I think Theresa May can afford to become tone-deaf to EU bureaucrats and address German and French industrial interests directly over their heads. I suspect that is what will essentially happen anyway. Just start addressing industrial interests directly, and say "yeah, whatever" to EU bureaucrats in the meantime. | | | | | Here is a good example of the UK going over the EU's heads. Barnier says, "Blah, blah", the UK says; UK plans to soften impact on European banks
That is a good example of waving a carrot. They also need to wave a good example of a painful stick. Speak to real concerns of real people on the continent and marginalize EU posturing in the process.

Too late! | Quote: | | | | BMG/Independent Poll: Shift towards Remain at height of Brexit negotiation tensions
With an eleven-point lead for Remain, BMG’s latest poll for the Independent shows the largest Remain lead in any of BMG’s monthly tracking polls conducted since the Referendum in June 2016.
BMG’s latest poll for the Independent puts Remain on 51%, Leave on 41% | | | | | Source |

And in any case since they would be branches they would still remain under the supervision of the EU, which most likely would prevent them from doing so since it would be an unsupervised high risk activity for the EU based banks.
In reality is show just how desperate the UK is becoming.

For me that would be a total slashing of corporation tax so that any tariffs could be offset by tax breaks for businesses. Whisper it, but this is what the EU fears most. They like to refer to this approach as a "race to the bottom" (see the outcry over Trump's tax plans for more details).
