Even if Turkey meets all the standard and exceeds by work of a miracle, EU will never accept Turkey as a member and this is fine really.

Membership is important but not everything, meeting the standards in all of their completeness( freedom of speech, human rights, equality, fair justice system, anti corruption, etc) is the real point.

Yeah, it is. Unfortunately under the current president it's rapidly disappearing! Or do you really believe that tens of thousands of everyday citizens in Turkey have been involved with this alleged coup atttempt?

I am not defending him but an assassination would only make the matters worse in the long term. There will be other Erdogans,Erbakans, etc.

Turkey's problem is the 20million people voting for the likes of Erdogan who is just benefiting from those people.

For sure not all the people he is punishing now were part of the coup attemp but I dont have any opposition from my circle who is either fired or arrested. well, other than the ones who openly insult and curse Erdogan on social media which is punishable under the current primitive law.

Currently the economy is going down really fast and he will suffer from that even if he becomes a president like he wants.

Sorry...in the gist of it says the government who printed money honoring the so called Feto terrorist group(the one behind the coup) activities also printed money for the people died fighting against the coup...and the same crowd applauded both them madly...

Rough translation...the point is the supporters of erdogan will applaud whatever he does and he does spineless things

He is still not getting the message:
Quote:
*ERDOGAN: THOSE WHO KEEP DOLLARS SHOULD CONVERT TO GOLD, LIRAS
*ERDOGAN: LIRA, GOLD SHOULD APPRECIATE, NOT FOREIGN CURRENCIES
*ERDOGAN: TURKEY WILL FOIL THIS GAME IN SHORT TIME, DON'T WORRY
*ERDOGAN: THERE'S NO WAY OUT BUT TO CUT INTEREST RATES
*ERDOGAN: TURKEY TO OPEN PATH OF INVESTORS W/ LOW RATES
*ERDOGAN: HIGH RATES WOULD ONLY BRING BENEFIT TO FINANCE SECTOR
and Turkish Lira hits record low of 3.5189 within seconds

things will turn very nasty very soon

you must have read about the fire in Adana, where unfortunately 11 kids + 1 teacher were burned to dead in a dormitory, it was obvious that some officials would have to bear the responsibility

Yesterday I came across a video taken from live Akit TV main news session (pro AKP, fundamentalist media); in anticipation of criticism Akit TV was already attacking the opposition and all non-government media; repeatedly shouting "Seculars/opposition killed those 11 girls... YOU killed them.. Now you will try to criticize the government and Adana municipality.. YOU killed them"..
They did not give a reasoning how and why but just repeatedly blaming all others

the country is split for good... i do not relate with akp supporters and cannot see a future with them

Erdogan has created a generation full of hatred and complete ignorance. I think even his ministers are afraid of those people and dont know how to control them.

I share your sentiment that picturing a future with those people is very hard. On the other hand, I fell very sad to leave the country to those people as well.

It is a terrible situation.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

Today, Monday 5 December 2016, WikiLeaks publishes an authoritative, searchable archive of 57,934 emails from the personal email address of Berat Albayrak, who is President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's son-in-law and Turkey's Minister of Energy.
The emails detail Albayrak’s involvement in organisations such as Powertrans, the company implicated in ISIS oil imports.

Most of the interesting ones are in Turkish language

Originally they were leaked in July by RedHack but now Wikileaks is republishing them.

The documents prove that the Erdogan family is in this as a whole. Even this guy was not a minister he as son in law and the children of Erdogan were heavily involved in all this what I would like to call a crime organization.

and of course as always the reaction from the supports of the AKP is that those mails are fake.

Faking over fifty thousand emails would be excessive. If they were faked I would assume they would only fake a few juicy ones!

Remember all those recordings of incriminating phone conversations; they were basically ignored

as long as it is one of them doing the lying, stealing, racketeering, killing, oppressing, etc, akp supporters are fine with it

It will be the president’s decision whether he decides to do so. So far, he has not chosen to – an U.S. official said.
