Well with martial law proclaimed he can claim all he wants... If this goes through it'll be interesting to see if the police get purged by a lot, since Erdogan multiplied their numbers by at least 4 during his reign.
Plus we're just getting pictures from Istanbul and I suppose, Ankara. Wonder what's happening in the rest of this rather large country?

"Democracy is like a train, you get on it, and when you're where you want to be, you get off"
I think it's about keeping the train on the rails and throwing off those with expired tickets.

Meanwhile, if Abe or Obama want to help, they should get Nintendo, Google & Apple to unleash Pokemon Go in Turkey ASAP. Like Now. That'll a) change the mood b) distract massively c) put so many out in the streets that have nothing to do with what's happening it'll make protests meaningless unless weapons.

Although that might draw a true picture I'm not sure I'm in favour of that.

I haven't heard of any of our 1st-row politicians an appeal to bring Erdogan back to power.
The silence is deafening.

The silence is deafening. | | | | | Hmmm, right. Ban Ki Moon called for calm (not clear who should stay calm) and the United Nations "follow the happenings attentively".
But to be honest, I'm also still not absolutely sure what to think of this. Part of the military is doing this but where are the people who support them? So far it seems only the pro Erdogan people are in the streets (and male only, I keep searching for woman in the pictures on tv). To keep up some kind of decomcracy, shouldn't the people go out there and win this?
