my wife's flight was cancelled
looks like randomly half of the flights of THY had been cancelled.obviously, the weather was good enough to fly to Munich, Stuttgart and Milan but not to Zurich. Interestingly, the earlier and later flights today were not cancelled - and it was not snowing.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

I spent the weekend with the family. I didn't watch tv for a very long time and our folks are connected (if it is not glued) to Turkish television. Oh my freaking Gee.....

It was so bad before, now it's the big F word worst. Tayyip has his channels pass some fluffy love about the nation, the pink or heart breaking stories of the terrifying coup attempt we, by the power of God, escaped, etc, etc, etc.

The whole day of yesterday was entirely focused on the snow in Turkey. But in a way..... all channels, all the same. Interviewing the driver of the salt destributing machine thing, how he will proceed, what does it mean, etc.

Because we never had snow in Turkey, for, like, ever!!!

FFS

Brain wash, spin, dry, repeat.

The last part isn't too different to media coverage in the UK and Greece, and as you know, Athens and Istanbul have had snow for the last few winters. I was supposed to fly over to Athens on 29 Dec to babysit the mother-outlaw, and it's a good job I didn't. The plane I was supposed to catch landed after the roads to her house had been closed due to snow. There are worse airports to be stranded at though.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

Oh and I forgot.

Tayyip is the worst idiot and jackass but he still managed to divide and destroy families. A cousin married to a Turkish guy received a picture of a Kurdish flag from an other cousin. That husband flipped and went bat crap crazy. He refuses to talk to the family now. Because it's not like he didn't know the wife was Kurdish since all those years...l

that's a bad example. We all know that Turkish families can be divided and destroyed because of any trivial reason

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

The ruling Justice and Development party (AKP) mustered the necessary 330 or more votes – a three-fifths majority – needed to OK the constitutional change to one man rule and send it to a referendum for final approval.

The debates have been fractious and last week saw some of the worst fighting seen in the parliament in years with punches thrown, deputies bloodied and one lawmaker claiming to have been bitten in the leg.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

Not really. This was the first round of individual change voting. On the 18th , the second round of individual voting will commence. The changes which get over 330 votes will be included in the final change package. Then that final change package will be voted twice. If the final package gets 330 votes at the last voting, the referandum will take place.

This is not to say, the suggested system is not dictatorship. In fact it is much much worse.

It's happening! Erdogan is almost there, they're gonna have the people vote to hand over the power to him. Okay, officially it's only a change of the constitution

Erdogan insults: Turkey is now following critics in Switzerland

The Swiss Govt. have confirmed "The Turkish authorities have sent us about half a dozen legal aids for insulting the President of the Republic."

Ankara wants Switzerland to interrogate people and collect evidence. According to the Sunday newspaper, there are among other things criminal proceedings due to entries in social networks such as Facebook.
