Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

German prosecutors have searched the homes of four Turkish Muslim preachers in a widening probe into claims that Ankara’s crackdown on its political opponents extends to spying on people of Turkish origin living abroad.

Source (might be behind a paywall)

Hans-Georg Maassen, head of the German BfV domestic intelligence agency, said “We cannot accept that intelligence agencies are operating in Germany against German interests,” he said.

Believe me when I say his; no it isnt.

I spent the last 3 days in Adana and Iskenderun for business. I was 100km away from Haleppo.

What I have seen was really interesting for me.Nobidy was talking about these arrests or firings or even referandum. The local restaurants we have been to on tuesday to thursday were packed with people eating and drinking( so they were not really conservative). People are happy. Let me correst that people are worn out and roght now rhey dont care or react. How can they react when the police, army and whole system is under erdogans control. Where to go to object really.

Anyways, wgat I have realized is that life goes on in Turkey and we, people abroad, particularly focus on the issues but not necessarily the majority of the people.

But you never know what this silence will bring. Hope dies last!
Around 125,000 people have been expelled from State health insurance and pension schemes without any good reason given and the depth of your compassion is to write "life goes on in Turkey"

Several Turkish citizens with diplomatic passports have sought political asylum in Switzerland, the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper reported on Wednesday, calling the move a potential test of the neutral country's ties with Turkey.

The paper said the second-ranking Turkish diplomat in Bern and his family were among those seeking asylum after he refused to comply with a summons to return home amid a Turkish purge of people suspected of disloyalty to President Tayyip Erdogan.

Seems to me, Mr. Volkan Karagöz should swallow his own medecine now. His family may be a different matter. If he survives it (ooops, sorry) he might learn something from it.
He officially threatened people living here - and even if he claimed they would bring them down "constitutionally correct" - what ever the hell that is supposed to be - he made people we have accepted here feel uncomfortable and criticized the politics of the country he now all of a sudden wants to help him. For the same reasons he threatened his compatriots, nota bene.
Should it,for humanitarian reasons, not be possible to send him back to Turkey, he should vegetate here on a N-permit for many, many years like so many others who are victims of his kind have to.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

Too good not to repeat!

From September to November last year, while he was working as a top adviser to Trump’s presidential campaign, ex General Flynn was lobbying for a firm linked to the Turkish government, earning $530,000.

Coincidentally
In November Flynn wrote an opinion piece in the Hill
Quote: "Washington should extradite the exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen—who Turkey suspects of plotting a failed military coup in July—to Ankara, a top military adviser to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said Wednesday."

“We need to adjust our foreign policy to recognize Turkey as a priority. We need to see the world from Turkey’s perspective,”

"Gülen portrays himself as a moderate, but he is in fact a radical Islamist. He has publicly boasted about his “soldiers” waiting for his orders to do whatever he directs them to do. "

Nevermind Turkey, what's going on in Holland?

Erdogan attempts to hold a rally in Rotterdam for the upcomming referendum that'll secure his powers as the next Middle East dictator. The Dutch block it, Turks in Rotterdam riot and chant "Allahu Akbar". Full on diplomatic incident. And Wilders rubs his hands.

Not when you see the videos of ensuing riots. This will backfire on the Dutch government. Heavily.

Not just Holland. Germany & Switzerland are blocking these rallies, let's hope France won't pussy out today. Erdogan thinks he can powerplay with his nationals in Europe? Expect some deportations. That damn referendum better be rejected.

With you not posting your source I had to google it all myself.

I'm pretty impressed with the European governements about this. Not seen so much back-bone for a while.

I just wonder, maybe we should travel to Turkey and demonstrate against the referendum? Erdogan & Co. would receive us with open arms, I suspect?

Best thing is, it's illegal for foreign political rallies to be held in Turkey. And Edogan says that the Dutch are enemies of democracy. Lol.

Some at least never, they are protesting at Dutch embassies. Sad when people don´t recognize that what they can do in that (foreign) country, they never could do in their own.

Anybody here?

Turkish officials have intercepted a Turkish-Swiss citizen at Istanbul Airport. They questioned him after the landing and denied him entry.

The case is known to the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). And it is not the only one. "Recently, two Turkish-Swiss double-citizens were prevented from entering Turkey or from leaving Turkey," the EDA said.

Be allowed?! Are you kidding? Bevore they vote they got all the freedom - if the vote the wrong thing they won't be allowed anything anymore.
And to be honest, I shall not be sorry for them if they do.
And any Turkish (I'm not talking about the Kurds .... will they even be allowed to vote?!) refugee coming here after the vote has to proof what s/he voted and those who voted in favour of Erdogan will get an NEE immediately. (NEE=Nicht Eintretens-Entscheid = no court case, back home immeriately).
