Turkey’s recent purchase of an advanced Russian anti-air weapons system may have violated a U.S. law that would require an automatic imposition of sanctions on the NATO member, a top Democratic lawmaker said today.

Eliminating Darwin and evolution is not a good thing of course, however it shouldn't be such shock and horror that children learn a few prayers and things like this. Lots of schools in "Christian" countries do exactly the same.

Did they do the same to Greece when they bought the S300s?

This was a good decision on Turkey's part.

Bigger problem is they are eliminating Ataturk from schools.

Exactly.

But IMHO what the West must NOT do now is to abandon Turkey.

No matter what Erdogan says the Turkish ec9nomy is a super fragile and foreign investment and trade dependent economy.

It is only a matter of time Europe and US imposes some economic ambargos to Turkey with the hope that it will be end of Erdogan. However, such move will be punishing the people, pro and against him, more than him.

Indeed, economic embargo would be a drastic solution now. I remember a few occasions in the past when Merkel, Mogherini et. co were awfully quiet re. Erdogan and his actions. But it's typical. We'll live and see how they'll deal with this problem.

Btw, Erdogan seems to have a serious obsession about Fethullah Gulen you know in the anti-Soros style in other countries, should he be afraid of him? I can't believe that, but would like to know other people's opinion.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

An emergency decree published late last month announced that scores of former fighter jet pilots face a mandatory recall — or risk losing their licences.
Between 200 and 300 civilian pilots, many of whom work for the national flag carrier, could now be summoned back to fill a shortage in the air force created by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s purge of the military after last year’s failed putsch, analysts and pilots say.

Theory meets reality. If these pilots are clever they will find a way to work for Western airlines

Their passports will cancelled in this case and neither them or their families can travel abroad. Plus most of those pilots are army retired,so they will not hesitate really ro go back.

Okay but I'm sure they realize how dangerous this is for them as things change over night and the accusation of being a Gülen-follower doesn't seem to be in need of being substantiated.

Erdogan has reached to his current power level due to the very well organized and structured approach provided by Gulen's people. Gulen's schools and exam preparation organizations have long been the back yard of the Erdogan supporters with strong religious tendencies.

In return for this support, Erdogan and his party AKP has enabled this group to penetrate every level of the critical roles in the state primarily in Army and police , Judical system and Education.

At this point there is a very strong assumption one needs to make. The Gulen group is a front organization of the CIA designed in 80s as part of the green belt approach of USA. In other words creation of Islamism against Russia(communist and mostly Atheist). The biggest support for this assumption is that the USA permanent visa is given to Gulen against the reference letter of Graham Fuller (former CIA Chairman). I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory.

Once Erdogan and started to fall apart from Western interests*, the Gulen group has started ot act as the tool to destroy him. First, his prosecutors wanted to question Erdogan's head of intelligence. Once it failed, Erdogan attacked to close their schools. This move was responded with the release of tapings of AKP businessmen, ministers and of course Erdogan and his family. Theo bjective was two fold; first follow the Judical system to prosecute them ,second criminalize AKP government members ot destroy the muslim and islamic image. They failed the first one but more or less successful in the second. However, the AKP supporters are so codependent to the existing of the parts that they simply said "everybody is corrupt,at least these guys are doing some work in return".

Finally, we come to the coup attempt. The public has later learned that the attempt happened 2 days prior to a major cleansing plan in the army by Erdogan. The hourly time has taken early as one major has informed the intelligence agency in the morning of July 15th.

Erdogan has turned this attempt to a counter attack to not only gulen's group but also to any opposition against him. The penetration of this group was so immense, even he doesn't know the extend of it. Nevertheless, he is using this fear as the justification of his anti democratic moves anyways. So it is double win for him.

*Erdogan had previous fallouts with US like the failure to support the Iraq invasion in 2003. However, all these we overlooked or foregiven. Erdogan was as authoritarian as beore but Europe was silent as he supported European backed economy and he was the gatekeeper against mass immigration. The biggest fallout has happened in the background actually when Erdogan has broke the sanctions against Iran. You can read it here:
http://uk.reuters.com/article/us-ira...91E0IN20130215
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/01/n...ions-case.html
https://www.ft.com/content/1bd0e546-...a-eda243196c2c

Just like Saddam and Qaddafi, he will be perished because he went against the US driven global economic system. Question is whether Turkey will be like Iraq or Libya.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

The White House denies that President Donald Trump called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to apologize for the violent incident that unfolded outside of the Turkish ambassador's residence in Washington in mid-May when Erdogan's bodyguards and supporters attacked peaceful protesters.

Erdogan told PBS NewsHour Monday that Trump told him he was sorry for what happened when the two men spoke on September 9.

"Actually, President Trump called me about a week ago about this issue," Erdogan told PBS' Judy Woodruff.
"He said that he was sorry, and he told me that he was going to follow up on this issue when we come to the United States within the framework of an official visit.
The protesters were insulting us, and they were screaming and shouting. The police failed to intervene properly."

Hopefully the FBI have a recording of the telephone conversation!

U.S. mission to Turkey suspends visa services for security reasons!

The U.S. mission to Turkey said on Sunday it was reducing visa services after one of its employees was detained last week, saying it needed to “reassess” Turkey’s commitment to the security of its personnel.

Last week, a U.S. consulate employee in Istanbul was arrested on charges of links to a cleric blamed for last year’s failed coup, a move condemned by Washington as baseless and damaging to ties between the NATO allies.

“In order to minimize the number of visitors to our embassy and consulates while this assessment proceeds, effective immediately we have suspended all non-immigrant visa services at all U.S. diplomatic facilities in Turkey.”

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

An appeals court on Oct. 9 ordered the retrial of jailed main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Enis Berberoğlu, who has been jailed since June on espionage charges.

The ruling could pave the way for Berberoğlu’s release, as his lawyers have demanded.

Berberoğlu was jailed on June 14 after an Istanbul court sentenced him to 25 years for “leaking state secrets” regarding a Turkish National Intelligence Agency (MİT) trucks case.

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/cou...beroglu-120579

I foresee more judges being jailed

I assume this is a second person?

Quote:
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office stated on Oct. 9 that it has invited a consulate staff member at the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul to testify as a suspect.

“The man, who is a staff member at the U.S. Consulate Istanbul and does not have ‘diplomatic immunity,’ has been invited to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for his testimony,” the prosecutor’s office stated.

It added that the suspect’s wife and child have already been detained in the Black Sea province of Amasya.
Family guilty by association?
