Yet most likely they will come back and say it was nice, sunny and quiet and the food was great. Like my friends do.
Sounds like Basel (current complaints thread on Swiss restaurants notwithstanding).

It does, doesn't it!

Although the last couple of times I eat absolutely yummy in two different "Quartierbeizen" (local joints) just around the corner from my mates place.

But then again, I know that the menue shows a lot of things I am not forced to order.

That's because they never get out of those tourist resorts. Most people mean that when referring to Turkey. But it's good, they can add Turkey on their list with "where have I been to"...;-)

I thought he was heading that band.

I'm more concerned about Incirlik Air Base. I suspect the US stores a lot of military equipment there?

It is claimed the base is full of nuclear weapons!

I am sure Trump was clever enough to have already smuggled them out

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan stood by his opposition to high interest rates today despite sharp falls in the currency, saying the lira’s weakness did not reflect the country’s economic realities.
Erdogan dismissed suggestions that Turkey was in a financial crisis like those seen in Asia two decades ago, dampening expectations of a rate rise to support the currency.

The Turkish lira has lost about 40 percent of its value this year, Erdogan dismissed this plunge in lira as the result of a plot against Turkey,

August the 10th is a 20% drop compared to August the 3rd and the first months of this year the Lira was pretty stable compared to the Dollar.

So purely looking at the numbers the fall is speeding up and market might have lost a lot of the remaining trust due to this weekend, and that will become visible in tomorrows numbers.

No need to panic. He has explained today that it is just a storm in a glass of water. If the people sell their euros and interest is very low, all problems will be solved.

Well, something like that

LOL, yeah, I read that too. Sell the Euros and the gold and all be well. At least when you lose it all you can start from scratch. Losing only half is a crap situation. 'Weder Fisch noch Vogel'. Who wants that

LOL, that be something..

Venezuela has an expected inflation of around a million % this year. I'd say Turkey goes into full civil war or a "bankruptcy" that will beat the Greece by large numbers way before they reached such.

A few EU banks could be in for a hard time today too depending on how exposed they are.

Lira now 6.9 vs $ after briefly exceeding 7.

Stock market following the lira down, 4% down so far today.; down 20% on the year.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

Let's see what the Lira does after Erdogans speech, and new economical measurements also will be announced today.

I'd say 8 would be possible today, and surely will be beaten before the end of the week.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

Nothing useful from Erdogan so far!
Quote:
President Tayyip Erdoğan said today he expected attacks on Turkey’s economy to continue but predicted the lira would return to “rational levels” soon, after the Turkish currency hit a record low of more than 7 to the U.S. dollar.

Erdoğan, who has described the lira’s fall as the consequence of a plot rather than economic fundamentals, also said that spreading false news about the economy was treason and recent U.S. actions were a stab in the back against Ankara.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

The central bank pledged today to provide liquidity and cut lira and foreign currency reserve requirements – a cash buffer – for Turkish banks.

The Turkish finance minister, Berat Albayrak, who is Erdoğan’s son-in-law, rejected capital controls as an option to stem outflows of hard currency.

The central bank did not raise interest rates as hoped so, not surprisingly, these measures have not made any improvement to the situation
