Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

You've probably heard about the movie Erdogan played to Trump and a handful of senators during his visit.

This journalist claims that this is the video.

Every story has two sides but Erdogan is not the man to find a peaceful solution
And this is how Cizre, a Kurdish town in Şırnak Province in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey, looked after Erdogan shelled it!
Erdogan really loves those Kurds.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Turkey wasn't in NATO?

Civil wars are horrible, setting family members against each other, but nevertheless not quite the same as shelling your own citizens?

Expect to see some personnel changes in Turkey’s highest court.

Good news

Quote:
A Turkish court acquitted all defendants Tuesday over the 2013 protests in Istanbul's Gezi Park .

The defendants included the businessman and philanthropist Osman Kavala who, along with two others, was facing a life sentence for allegedly attempting to overthrow the government.

Re: What is happening in Turkey tonight?

Turkey back in the news.
Quote:
Turkish mafia boss Sedat Peker is leveling serious accusations against leading government lawmakers. He has published five videos on YouTube in which he claims that high-profile politicians from Turkey's ruling AKP party are involved in serious crimes.

The clips, which have gone viral and are making headlines, claim leading lawmakers were involved in malfeasance, murders, rapes, drug trafficking, and other illicit practices. Peker alleges the Turkish government has spent the past years shielding him from persecution, even issuing police escorts to guarantee his safety.

The Mafioso claims Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu tipped him off that authorities were on his case, allowing him to flee Turkey and escape prosecution.
Another of the recurring claims of government links to criminals, Federal prosecutors in New York are prosecuting Halkbank, a Turkish state bank, accused of a multibillion-dollar scheme to violate United States sanctions on Iran.
Halkbank’s jury trial was scheduled to begin this month, Ankara has succeeded in stalling the process through legal manoeuvres at the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan.
