If you happen to have any of the old fivers left, you will need to change them in a bank. They go out of circulation tomorrow. Apparently, there are still around 750 million worth of them out there somewhere
Well that's crap. I got a fiver as change at LHR on my trip to the States last November. I'm not going to be at a UK bank any time soon. At least it's just a 5, not something bigger.

Re: New UK Five Pound notes

Shops may refuse to take them after Saturday, but then again they may still take them. Entirely optional on their part from the sounds of it.

3Wishes for 20 Rappen more you can post it to the Bank of England for a replacement.

"The public can take or post any old notes, at any time in the future, to the Bank of England in Threadneedle Street in the City of London, to be replaced."

Re: New UK Five Pound notes

I imagine some tourists are going to get caught out by the change, as the article says that banks will only take notes from their own customers.

Re: New UK Five Pound notes

These guys also take it. They send it in bulks to the different countries once they got enough even when the Swiss banks don't do that anymore.

That's a pretty nice place actually, you bring them all kinds of stuff .... money, coins, jewelry what ever and one of the guys there seems to know everything about anything and gives you a lot of interesting information. (Okay, not much history on your 5 pound note, I agree ) However, he definitely seems to have his dream job

The new, smaller, plastic notes are now in circulation. Don't get left with any of the old ones as they will be withdrawn from circulation in May. After that, only banks will change them.

Old and new compared

Just English notes or have NI and Scotland also done similar?
