Re: Will Hillary Clinton run for president again?

Jill Stein has been extremely vocal against HRC. Read her last few tweets!

This regarding electoral integrity :

"Bring the United States in line with the rest of the developed world (and much of the developing world) as it relates to elections. As the Electoral Integrity Project’s 2015 Year in Elections report noted, U.S. elections are less transparent, and less democratic, than those in South Africa, Rwanda, Tunisia, Brazil and Argentina."

Re: Will Hillary Clinton run for president again?

"Voter registration problems in North Carolina and other states have led to confusion and long lines. With talk of rigging so pervasive, anything out of the ordinary can be taken as potentially untoward. When faulty machines would not accept ballots in Boone, N.C., Allison Critcher was asked by a poll worker to slip her ballot through a little metal slot on the ballot box. She felt that something might be fishy.

“They did not, however, explain what they were going to do with our ballots, which made me a little wary,” said Ms. Critcher, who voted in late October.

Not all of the early-voting problems reported this year are figments of imagination. Kristen Clarke, the executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, said that her organization’s national hotline for reporting problems at the polls had received about 50,000 calls this year, and that there had been more complaints about voter intimidation than in 2012."

I don't think so, though she's only marginally less horrible of a candidate.

However, having her run again would be a surefire way to lose. Provided she'd win the primaries again, maybe they'd be a bit less rigged than last time.

Re: Will Hillary Clinton run for president again?

IMNSHO there should be an age limit for this type of office. Not only in the US. Say; 57, so when they come out 8 years later, they're just about 65 and ready to start the idyllic life of a pensioner: Spoil their grand children, breed roses, take long naps in a rocking chair on the front porch, troll internet forums etc.

Geriatric presidents just don't help anything. And we have more than enough of these all around the world already. (I am old enough to be entitled to say that, naps on front porches are great for us oldies )

My impression is that a lot of her supporters are still pretty clueless as to why she lost. The backlash is directed almost entirely at Trump, and you rarely hear anybody ask, what did the Dems do wrong? So it is not beyond the imaginable that she might win the primaries again.

But I guess the smart strategists in her party are more switched on than than the masses and will think of some way to stop her.

I don't think they are clueless, but the climate is not conducive to actually try to figure out the real reasons. They are actively supported to have a particular groupthink, a dogma saying selfrighteously that Trump won only thanks to him being a white male priviledged millionaire, and fed all sorts of nonsence about his ill mental health and lack of decorum. The same crowd that bullies opponents by a tight definition of what is moral (pc, etc.) and what is not and presenting Hillary highly above Trump. I don't even think she'd win prelims, tbh. And to figure out somebody new who is as visible as Trump made himself to be...I don't know.

Trump went from being an outsider to being a favourite in no time. So I guess it is possible to replicate that. I wouldn't write off that possibility just yet. No shortage of big mouthed celebs who support the Dems who might be nudged into giving it a try.

Or Trump will regarded as a president in the same way shell suits were to 80s fashion. Something new and different to try, something that got popular very quickly and something never to speak of ever again.

Except it will not be just a Dem candidate. But a Dem with a series of highly politicized and obligatory agendas: metoo, free internet, womlib 4, diversity infrastructure and legislature, affirmative quotas, legalisation of illegal immigrants. All highly expensive and heavy issues that tie down anyone who wants to waltz in and show immediate impact. Trump could, he shook off any really obligatory or expected stands and could only focus on the economy. Dems' hands are tied. It cannot be a thinker, lib thinkers lost the regular audience, they are busy partying at marches and blowing baloons. It will be Oprah, or somebody equally quick in media popularity and manipulation. Although I doubt that she wants to kill her business. She will be a token figure, Obama is probably relieved he doesn't have to participate in this Hollywood resembling Walt Street business that US politics became. Finance and entertainment.

I don't know about Oprah directly, I don't think she wants to get her hands dirty. But somebody along those lines probably doesn't mind. Lots of crazy tweeting and ad hoc big mouthed statements championing all of these topics and many more. Throwing their weight behind any protest and drowning out any opposition. Lots of one liner put downs to end any serious attempt at starting a discussion. Basically Trump squared but as left wing version and without any real agenda. In fact quite a few people are already doing that now. So just put one of them into the White House and let them continue their game from the seat of power. Hand the real politics over to men in grey suits. And a coule of years down the line start wondering what's wrong with the country.

It may sound absurd but I wouldn't put it beyond the realm of the possible.

When the pendulum strikes out to extremes in one direction it often also strikes out to extremes in the other direction as it swings back.
