Hey, Trump thread, congratulations on 20,000 posts! Many happy returns!

One thing about Trump is for sure: he knows how to keep himself in the news!
The Brexit thread has 22,000+ posts. Trump has to try harder to win this battle.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

He actually did something somewhat sensible this weekend. He cancelled talks with the Taliban and Afghan's as he said if you can't prevent a bomb going off in Kabul (and killing a US soldier) is is very unlikely you have to power to conclude a peace agreement.

For once, he is right and i agree with him !

Jokes aside, what I personally find the most frustrating in the Trump affair is the fact that Trump has made Putin (and other dictators de ce monde) seem like you know, somehow a not-so-bad guy. He draws all the attention onto himself, while Putin is literally out of the radar and rarely receives any international criticism these days. Putin doesn't have to pay or infiltrate into any Western media channel, this job it's been done by itself.

So if he does not get a second term then God has turned against him? 20 years in the wilderness?

I would struggle to put my finger on the most frustrating thing, but yes, the refusal to condemn dictators and autocrats for, well, anything, certainly ranks highly. The world needs the US to show leadership in the defense of democracy and law and order, instead there is a US president who doesn't know the meaning of the words, or the meaning of many other words.

Fixed that for you.

The more time I spend in the US the clearer it becomes that the problem goes waaaaaaaaaaay deeper than Trump. He is the symptom - the rot in our society that led us to this point is pervasive.

I sincerely fear for our future.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Sort of relevant if you close one eye and squint a bit!
Despite the Kremlin banning opposition (Alexei Navalny) candidates in the Moscow city Council election last weekend after internal polling indicated they would win at least nine seats. Putin's party, the United Russia party, saw its share of seats on the 45-seat city council slashed from 40 to 25.

The nationalist Liberal Democratic party of Russia (LDPR) won 34 out of 35 seats in the Khabarovsk regional parliament. United Russia also lost its majority in Irkutsk, in eastern Siberia.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Quote:
In a previously undisclosed secret mission in 2017, the United States successfully extracted from Russia one of its highest-level covert sources inside the Russian government, multiple Trump administration officials with direct knowledge told CNN.

A person directly involved in the discussions said that the removal of the Russian was driven, in part, by concerns that President Donald Trump and his administration repeatedly mishandled classified intelligence and could contribute to exposing the covert source as a spy.

The decision to carry out the extraction occurred soon after a May 2017 meeting in the Oval Office in which Trump discussed highly classified intelligence with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and then-Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak. The intelligence, concerning ISIS in Syria, had been provided by Israel.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Federal judge versus court of appeal!!
Quote:
A federal judge in California restored his decision to block a Trump administration rule that dramatically limits the ability of Central American migrants to claim asylum after the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals narrowed the injunction last month.

The rule, from the departments of Justice and Homeland Security, would prohibit migrants who have resided in or traveled through third countries from seeking asylum in the US, therefore barring migrants traveling through Mexico from being able to claim asylum.

In his order Monday, US District Judge Jon Tigar said, "The primary reason a nationwide injunction is appropriate is that it is the only means of affording complete relief" -- issuing yet another setback for the Trump administration after its brief victory in the 9th Circuit last month.

The acting chief scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), Craig McLean, is investigating whether the agency's response to President Trump’s claims about Hurricane Dorian & Alabama constituted a violation of policies and ethics.

In a Sunday email, Craig McLean called NOAA's response “political” and a “danger to public health and safety.”

McLean told his staff, “I am pursuing the potential violations of our NOAA Administrative Order on Scientific Integrity."

this is Stalinist, it's not just interference, its interference at the expense of science. If you are still supporting this administration after all we've seen you are either rich and scamming it, or you're too stupid to realise you've been scammed.
