Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

The US economy is slowing!

Quote:
The US economy grew at an annualized rate of 1.9% in the third quarter, the Commerce Department announced Wednesday.
This is better than many economists forecast but still the lowest Q3 figure since 2015. It is higher than many other economies but nowhere near the 3 - 4% Trump promised in his campaign.
Overall, it looks like the US economy is sliding back to the characteristic ca. 2% average GDP.

From "his master's voice"
Quote:
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
If the Democrats had won the Election in 2016, GDP, which was about 1% and going down, would have been minus 4% instead of up 4.2%.
I opened up our beautiful economic engine with Regulation and Tax Cuts.
Our system was choking and would have been made worse. Still plenty to do!
1:10 PM · Sep 10, 2018
Actually the average GDP during Obama's tenure was 1.88%. according to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis. His best quarter was 5.1% in the 2nd quarter of 2014 which is higher than Trump has so far achieved for any quarter.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Interesting times, potentially explosive:
Quote:
Former national security adviser John Bolton is slated to testify next week as part of Democrats' impeachment inquiry, in what could be a key deposition for House investigators who are seeking to unravel details about President Trump's contacts with Ukraine.

Bolton is expected to testify behind closed-doors on Nov. 7, according to a source familiar with the impeachment proceedings.

He is someone who was involved in some of the most explosive events related to Trump's contacts with Ukraine, but it’s unclear whether the longtime Republican stalwart would defend Trump’s actions or if he would paint his efforts to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to open politically motivated investigations as an abuse of power or as an extension of executive powers.

Wouldn't that be Melania's job?

Never mind impeachment. The guy is obviously confused and endangerment of self and others is a given.

Trump protecting Putin again!
Quote:
The White House blocked the US state department from issuing a statement condemning Russia for seizing Ukrainian military vessels, according to a state department official, in the latest example of the strain the Trump administration is under in pursuing conflicting policies towards the two countries.

The revelation on Wednesday came from Christopher Anderson, who was a senior aide to the special envoy on Ukraine, Kurt Volker, in November 2018, when Russia fired on and captured three Ukrainian vessels in the Sea of Azov off the Crimean peninsula.

“While my colleagues at the state department quickly prepared a statement condemning Russia for its escalation, senior officials in the White House blocked it from being issued,”

There were many people listening to the call. How come they (including the President of Ukraine) found NOTHING wrong with it. Witch Hunt!

This so-called "Never Trumper" actually works for Trump in the White House and is Trump's top expert on Ukraine. The next day after giving his deposition he returned to his desk in the White House, how weird that must be for him?

House votes to formalize impeachment enquiry, in a break with tradition Nancy Pelosi votes which is seen as making a statement.

Spanky reacts by calling it unconstitutional, greatest witch hunt in American history, blah blah blah, but who really cares what he says any more?

Millions of Trump supporters care what he says, regardless of whether it's true or not.

Not true. Under the terms spelled out in the U.S. Constitution, the House holds an impeachment inquiry and determines whether the President is impeached (i.e. convicted of a crime). Bill Clinton WAS impeached. For real. Trump might be impeached; the Democrats have a solid majority in the House.

Removal from office is the other issue. After the House votes in favor of impeachment, the Senate holds a trial to determine whether the crimes committed that resulted in impeachment are severe enough to warrant removal from office. Removal from office requires a 2/3 majority vote in the Senate (67 of 100 senators).

Unless some astonishing evidence comes forward during the impeachment proceedings of the House and the subsequent trial in the Senate, Trump will not be removed from office.

Depends who you ask. Some say it's just to score political points, and in this case to try and sway voters not to vote for Trump in 2020. Others say it is the job of Congress to hold the President accountable for his actions. Nixon knew he was in deep shit and resigned rather than go through impeachment and removal from office.

When Clinton was impeached it was a similar scenario but with the houses flipped. Rs had a majority in the House and Ds had a majority in the Senate. The Rs could "safely" impeach Clinton to make a point, because the Ds wouldn't remove him from office.

Biden slips to fourth in new Iowa poll
A new Iowa poll found that the Democratic presidential primary in the early voting state is a tight race as Joe Biden has lost his lead.

According to the New York Times-Siena College poll, Elizabeth Warren leads the Iowa race, attracting the support of 22 percent of the state’s Democratic voters. Bernie Sanders is a close second at 19 percent, and Pete Buttigieg is just behind him at 18 percent. Biden narrowly comes in fourth at 17 percent.

Schadenfreude while Trump is impeached for acting against Biden if Biden is not selected as the Dem candidate .

Overall I think impeaching Trump is a bad idea because assuming the Senate lets him off then he will be unleashed and even wilder!
