How did you manage to quote a typo which is not in my post?
At least he balanced it by inserting an article that should have been in your post.

Defeats the purpose of quoting, ROFL.

yeah, well, maybe .... then I should have added "and does Trump get to choose which one".

So put simple:
They will press charges, the senate becomes juror and judge (most of them laymen), the accused has no defense lawyer - as it's not really a court-case.

<snip>

If Trump is found guilty AND removed from office - will he then have to face court of justice?
Or will he just happily retire?
The Senate becomes the jury, and yes, most of them are laymen -- just like any jury of "peers of the accused", found in most court rooms in the US. The proceedings are presided over by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, so there's definitely a judge there (and it's not the Senate).

If Trump were to be found guilty, he would be booted out of office, in which case Pence would become President. What would be really interesting is a situation where Pence, the Vice President, were to be dragged into this whole mess and also be impeached, found guilty, and kicked out, then the next-in-line to become President (according to the Constitution of the United States) would be the Speaker of the House of Representatives -- who is none other than Nancy Pelosi...

There was a chance of this situation -- the Speaker becoming President -- happening when impeachment investigations of Nixon started. In that instance, the Vice President, Spiro T. Agnew, was convicted of tax evasion (unrelated to the impeachment enquiries) and resigned. Had Nixon been impeached, convicted, and removed from office at that time, before a new Vice President could come into office, the Speaker would have become President. However, Nixon replaced Agnew with the very popular House minority leader, Gerald Ford, and shortly afterwards resigned before an impeachment vote could be held.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Week after week Trump and the GOP have been complaining about the impeachment hearings being held in secret, private sessions.

Today, "President Trump said there should be no public hearings in the impeachment inquiry as he railed against the process unfolding in the House."

Source

Typical Trump chaos
I assume he is worried about having his dirty washing revealed in public!

Meanwhile;
Quote:
Two White House officials told lawmakers the "blatant" push for politically motivated investigations from President Donald Trump left "no ambiguity" what the Ukrainians needed to do to secure a highly sought meeting
— and the effort was coordinated by acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney,
according to deposition transcripts released Friday.
Read the transcripts!!

"Sometimes I feel like screaming, "Everybody knows that Trump is as crooked as a broken nose and as dumb as a fencepost. Just quit shitting around and get him the out of there." - Stephen King

In other news, anyone see Jeff Sessions hostage tape? I am embarrassed for him, Spanky publicly humiliated him and Sessions puts together a vid fawning over him and promising to be a good boy, spineless weasel.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

The Dems seem to be backing off trying to force reluctant witnesses to attend the House impeachment process but it is not clear why?

I wonder if they hope to call them to the Senate impeachment trial as witnesses which seems to have a stronger process for forcing attendance?

I would love to send Ambassador Sondland, a really good man and great American, to testify, but unfortunately he would be testifying before a totally compromised kangaroo court, where Republican’s rights have been taken away, and true facts are not allowed out for the public....

How quickly things change

Quote:
President Trump told reporters at the White House Friday that he "hardly [knows]" EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland, who testified before the House's impeachment inquiry that military aid to Ukraine was conditioned on an investigation into the Biden family's business dealings there.

BTW, Trump also claims not to know;
  • Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman: Trump's National Security Council's top Ukraine expert.
  • Former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch
  • Bill Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine
  • Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman: business associates of Rudy Giuliani

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Growing factional splits in the GOP support!
Quote:
Donald Trump Jr walks out of Triggered book launch after heckling – from supporters.

Donald Trump Jr ventured on to the University of California’s overwhelmingly liberal Los Angeles campus on Sunday, hoping to prove what he had just argued in his book – that a hate-filled American left was hell-bent on silencing him and anyone else who supported the Trump presidency.

But the appearance backfired when his own supporters, diehard Make America Great Again conservatives, raised their voices most loudly in protest and ended up drowning him out barely 20 minutes into an event scheduled to last two hours because they were not allowed questions.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Another judge rules against Trump
Quote:
A federal judge on Monday dismissed two New York officials from President Trump's lawsuit over his state tax returns.

Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump appointee in federal district court in Washington, D.C., ruled that the D.C.-based court doesn't have jurisdiction over the New York officials.
Presumably, Trump could now try a New York court but they are unlikely to rule against a new NY State law requiring sight of Trump's tax returns.

Meanwhile on the topic of corruption claims in Ukraine gas industry
Quote:
Two political backers of Energy Secretary Rick Perry landed a lucrative oil and gas exploration deal from Ukraine's government shortly after Perry reportedly included one of the two men in a list of suggested potential advisers to Ukraine's new president.

The AP reported Monday that Michael Bleyzer was among four names Perry had recommended to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Bleyzer and partner Alex Cranberg later got a contract to drill for oil and gas despite offering a bid that was lower than their only other competitor, the AP reported citing internal Ukrainian government documents.
And finally, there are now 20 GOP members of the House who will not stand for reelection next year. It cannot be much fun being in the House minority in these highly political times especially when your strategy is changed by the daily tweet!

Widely rumoured Haley is playing to replace Pence as Vice President. If Trump gets the chop then she would be on a fast track to being President.

Meanwhile, the GOP keep complaining that impeachment witnesses do not have first-hand knowledge (BTW, not entirely true.) while continuing to support Trump blocking of witnesses with first-hand knowledge.

Chad Wolf is now the acting Homeland Security secretary making him the fifth person to lead the third-largest department in the federal government under President Donald Trump. Spanky is incredibly bad at filling jobs with suitable people and makes it worse by firing people before he has identified a a good replacement.

Hasn't the supreme court got better things to do than make a ruling on tax returns?

John Cleese offered a good analogy this week about the futility of talking to Spanky's followers, comparing them to people who think pro wrestling is real.

If they can’t see it when it’s right under their nose, I have no idea how they’re going to realize how wrong they are.
