Trump tweet of the day.
Trump paying homage to Putin by copying his bare chest photos, but unlike Putin with a fake chest.

The scary thing is that it's not even that weird any more. Everyone is kind of desensitised to his whack-job behaviour.

He can't even lower the bar any further; it's fallen off its lowest setting and been chopped up for matchwood.

Of course he can! He's proven all his critics wrong and this was only a normal Wednesday!
I just imagine the discussion he had with the artist:
- so, Mike, I want you to take Rocky's body and put my head on it
- hahahahahah...oh, you're serious? Sure Sir!

Meanwhile this Trump "thing" gets evermore Kafkaesque!

A major Fox News Trump fan, Tucker Carlson, today mounted an unusual defense of Trump
Quote:
Fox News host Tucker Carlson called President Trump a “compulsive self-promoter” and a “full-blown BS artist” while seeking to defend him against negative media coverage during his show on Wednesday night.

“As the Wahington Post points out, the lying began at the inauguration. Perhaps you remember this claim, which, at the time, deeply offended official Washington,” Carlson said before going on to play a clip of Trump claiming that his inauguration drew the largest audience “ever.”

“We’re not going to lie to you,” Carlson said. “That was untrue. The crowd at the 2017 inauguration was not the largest ever measured on the National Mall. Sorry, it wasn’t.”
Source

Trump held a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, during which he announced that he has restarted peace talks with the Taliban, and that he’d like to reduce the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan to 8,600, down from a current total of less than 14,000.
Probably finish up the same as in Syria where the number of US troops has actually increased after a similar Trump announcement.

Another day in Trumpland.

“Triggered,” a great book by my son, Don.
Now number one on @NYTIMES LIST. Keep it there for a while!
Karma!
“A Warning,” a behind-the-scenes book authored by an anonymous Trump administration official that takes a critical look at the president, has replaced Donald Trump Jr.’s “Triggered” as the No. 1 nonfiction book on The New York Times's bestseller list.

Shouldn't the Trump Jr. book have been shelved under "fiction" anyway?

Billionaire philanthropist and Democratic presidential hopeful Tom Steyer has purchased a site with President Trump’s campaign slogan, “Keep America Great,” which now redirects visitors to a page calling the president a “fraud” and “failure.”
This election is turning into a Billionaire's playground.

When visitors go to KeepAmericaGreat.com, they have the option to donate $1 in exchange for a bumper sticker that reads, “Trump is a fraud & a failure.”

One can only admire Trump's great deal of effort to avoid the stock markets to overheat.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

America's manufacturing sector in November contracted for the fourth straight month, according to an industry survey released Monday; so this sector is technically in recession.
Survey respondents continued to complain of tariffs, trade uncertainty and weak orders.

Quote:
A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., on Monday denied the Justice Department's efforts to lift a temporary halt on four federal executions.

The department had appealed a trial judge's ruling last month that ordered a stay of the executions while a separate legal challenge to the Trump administration's new lethal injection protocol plays out.

The longest-running of the four lawsuits was filed 16 years ago.
The cases went dormant during the Obama administration amid a shortage of lethal injection drugs.
Meanwhile as part of the slowly changing GOP story and retreat we now have "House Republicans are expected to argue President Trump did not intend for his dealings with Ukraine to benefit him politically, but rather that the president made "entirely prudent" decisions driven by a "reasonable skepticism" about corruption in the country."

They seem to be falling into the trap that Trump warned them of;
Quote:
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

The call to the Ukrainian President was PERFECT. Read the Transcript! There was NOTHING said that was in any way wrong.
Republicans, don’t be led into the fools trap of saying it was not perfect, but is not impeachable. No, it is much stronger than that.
NOTHING WAS DONE WRONG!

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Dow falls more than 400 points after Trump warns China trade war could go beyond 2020 election
All the optimists who believed his frequent statements that the talks were going well and bought shares are counting their losses; hopefully, they will not rush to sell and start a panic.
Why doesn't he learn to keep his mouth shut?

Meanwhile, it is rumoured Attorney General William Barr is rejecting a key finding in the Justice Department inspector general’s report on the Russia probe, that the FBI had enough intelligence to initiate an investigation into the Trump campaign in July 2016.

Luckily the inspector general is independent and Barr cannot change his report.

So much for the long-standing protocol that dictates the FBI and Justice Department operate free of political influence or meddling from the White House. Barr is rapidly turning into Trump's private attorney.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

From the President whose lies are more easily disproved than Walter Mitty's.

""I don't know Prince Andrew, Duke of York, but it's a tough story," Trump said in London during a press appearance today on the sidelines of the NATO summit. "I don't know him, no."

So from as long ago as June

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

One of Trump's favourite claims is that China is paying his tariffs and so pouring billions into the US.

Trump's own administration publishes data that shows import prices in $ are little changed (ca. 2%) since tariffs began, despite a 12% drop in the value of the Yuan in the same period so the Chinese are actually earning more for their products in Yuan!
It is the US consumers and companies who pay the tariffs.
