Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

It appears Iran’s response so far has been to shoot down a passenger plane, crush dozens of her own people and launch 12 missles at two bases. The talk of World War 3 was probably a little premature! Let’s pray all sides see sense now and that this little face saving exercise is the last of the matter!

Theses nothing to say the Iranians shot the plane down. They said it was technical problems.

I’m skeptical of what Iranian State TV says.

I fear your post is a little premature and too early for a victory dance.

There was a huge turnout at Soleimani's funeral so the Iranian leadership is now trapped by their own rhetoric and will likely face civil unrest if they fail to deliver an adequate response.

If you are talking about Ukraine plane crash near Tehran then it makes no sense for them to drop a plane on their own citizens. Anyway, it was a Boeing 737; the latest version of this plane has a poor safety record so that would be the first place to look for a cause.

Iranian state media claim 80 casualties in the US bases so not a minor event if a true claim.

World War 3 hangs on the US response

Edit: There are also Allied soldiers in those two bases

There were 70 Iranians on board. Why should they kill their own?

State Media is only propoganda. They have to placate the hard liners.

I believe the plane has been shot down accidentally. It was on fire when it crashed and disappeared off radar at altitude. This indicates it was shot down. Other airlines have announced they are avoiding Iranian airspace.

You mean they just release a stream of unqualified, premature speculation with nothing to back it up?

Sounds familiar...

Shooting down a Ukrainian plane makes no sense whichever way you chop it.

Iran has no allies and no capability to start or fight World War 3. At worst this will be another Middle Eastern conflict the likes of which the world can do without. I expect more covert responses, cyber attacks and more problems in the straits of Hormuz. What a mess!

Taking Boeing down would certainly hurt the American economy badly....

Lets hope it is not this and it was just a case of bad timing.

Why would anyone take Boeing down? Could you be more explicit? Hard for anyone else to understand your usual two liners.

You mean that specific model? Because of this incident?

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Worrying that the US bases do not seem to have any effective anti-missile capability!

I assume part of the Iranian plan was to encourage Iraq to continue with its efforts to send the US troops home? No country wants foreign countries to fight each other on their own land with consequent risks for their own civilian population.

I think it's because Boeing as a company already took a huge knock with the crash of two of its 737 Max 8 planes in quick succession and the subsequent the grounding of that model over safety issues.

If the Iranians could somehow down another 737, albeit a different series, it would further damage Boeing.

There's so far no evidence that it was downed, though.

Airbus was in a similar position a few times already albeit for slightly different reasons, if I recall correctly. Too much at stake to see any of these down.

Boeing doesn’t make aircraft engines, which initial reports suggest was the problem. They are prohibited by US law from doing this (or running an airline either).

There was an engine failure on an older 737 of Southwest Flight 1380, in April 2018, when a fan blade broke off one of the engines.

Source

737 has two engines so usually after one failure, it can still fly?

So any planes that go down in flames have been shot down. Interesting theory.

The Iranians don´t have to shoot down an airliner, it makes no sense unless they did a boo boo or the Americans drew first.
My guess is an ill-timed accident, Ukraine air doesn´t have the best track record for servicing their aircraft.
