White House revolving door.....
Trump has dumped acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire, and replaced him with a Trump fanboy, Richard Grenell, the U.S. ambassador to Germany. Grenell has zero experience in Intelligence work and was never a senior manager.

Maybe Grenell will not last long? President Trump on Thursday said he is considering Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) to serve as the permanent director of national intelligence.
Former acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire has formally resigned from US government service today. The office of DNI also officially announced the second-ranking official there, Andrew Hallman, stepped down Friday afternoon.
No formal announcement yet of Hallman's replacement.

Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) has announced today he does not want to serve as the permanent director of national intelligence

It gives them time to try to stop Russian interference assuming Trump does not block their resources.

In other news; A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, filed in 2019 against Fusion GPS, the firm at the heart of the controversy surrounding Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Judge Liam O'Grady of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia wrote in a two-page ruling that Nunes’s complaint was too vague to move forward with a civil case and that the Virginia court was not the appropriate setting for the suit.
Nunes probably only did it for publicity.

In a move that should have happened before; Greyhound, the nation’s largest bus company, said that it will notify the Department of Homeland Security that it no longer consents to warrantless immigration searches on its buses and terminal areas that are not open to the public.

Seems the new director of national intelligence Grenell will maintain his post as ambassador to Germany? Possibly confirms he will not keep his DNI job for long.

Dow finished below 29,000 as the virus spreads outside China.

The US continues to worsen!
Quote:
Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor issued a dissenting opinion Friday accusing her conservative colleagues of having a bias toward the Trump administration.

“Today’s decision follows a now-familiar pattern,” Sotomayor began. “The Government seeks emergency relief from this Court, asking it to grant a stay where two lower courts have not. The Government insists—even though a review in a court of appeals is imminent—that it will suffer irreparable harm if this Court does not grant a stay. And the Court yields.”
Supreme Court sinking into the partisan fight morass.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

President Donald Trump's acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney did not travel with him to India at the last minute although he was listed to travel, according to four people who say he has a cold and was advised not to go.

Mulvaney also did not travel with Trump on his four-day swing out West last week either, which aides took as a potential sign he likely wouldn't remain in the job much longer because both of his predecessors stopped traveling with the President near the end of their tenures, too.

Meanwhile, Dow futures dropped 600 points over virus worries.

The Russians are successfully sowing confusion and lack of trust in the 2020 elections.

There is no one left in the White House tasked specifically to oversee a coordinated government-wide response in the event of a pandemic.

In April 2018, Trump fired the head of the DHS epidemic team.
In May 2018, Trump ordered the National Security Council's entire global health security unit to shut down.

Funding has also been cut drastically to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), forcing it to reduce or discontinue epidemic-prevention efforts in 39 out of the 49 countries it had been helping.

In its 2020 budget, the Trump administration proposed a further 10% cut in CDC funding, equivalent to $750m.

There is no official Trump administration expert position on what this coronavirus budget should be because Trump fired all the experts.
So far nobody has been named as in overall control.

Nancy Messonnier, the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters Tuesday that containing the virus will become increasingly difficult as more and more countries are affected.

“It’s not a question of if this will happen but when this will happen and how many people in this country [US] will have severe illnesses.

President Donald Trump told reporters that “we’re very close to a vaccine” while answering questions about the COVID-19 outbreak during a state visit to India.
The White House later said Trump was referring to the Ebola vaccine— not the coronavirus.

Poor old guy should be kept in a quiet room somewhere?

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Following yesterday's Dow 1,000+ point fall to below 28,000, the multiple bankrupt and his team advised his citizens to buy stock "on the dip"!
So far the good citizens have ignored this

Today the Dow fell over 1,000 points again to below 27,000 then recovered to 27,081 with only an 880 point fall.

Year to date the Dow is down 5%.

Most people blame anxiety over the virus but some say stocks were anyway overpriced.

People are resisting the opportunity to buy shares "on the dip"!
Dow, after some ups and downs, finished up around 0.5% down and under 27,000.

Trump's tweets and speeches so far demonstrate he is more interested in the health of the US stock market rather than the health of his citizens.

If this does turn into a major US public health crisis (I hope not) then it will be difficult to ensure people believe and follow Government advice because according to multiple polls, most people do not trust Trump.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Trump has appointed V.P. Pence as the lead US person on controlling the coronavirus.
Pence has no known qualifications for this role, presumably, Trump believes in the power of prayer.

The new case in the US is in California and, so far, they have no idea how this person came into contact with the virus.

Trump demonstrated little knowledge of his team's planned response and contradicted the dire warnings voiced by senior public health officials just the day before.

"The risk to the American people remains very low," Trump said in a press conference. "We're very, very ready for this – for anything."

Presumably when the inevitable happens, Pence will get fired
