I would say that if I was a lawyer with the relevant knowledge I could shoot down any argument your might present about being a “free” citizen. And all the rest that goes with it.

Who in their right mind believes that politicians represent the average voter?

Do they speak on the behalf of the citizen? Or do they speak on behalf of the elite?
They speak for the lobbies that pay their way, or whoever's putting cash in their pockets. Maybe not all of them, but a lot of them.

And then they frame it as though they are helping constituents, it's not hard to mangle the frame.

Campaign finance reform, term limits and shutting down lobbies are the way to go..... good luck with that, though.

Depending on the sample size, not sure the difference between Trump and Pence is significant. Still, it's rather amusing.

A random national sample of 1,011registered voters, results based on the full sample have a margin of sampling error of ± 3 percentage points

Pence scores better than Trump
A majority approves Trump's reaction while over 40% disapproves the federal government's reaction

Do I ever post seriously?

It's a real shame that people need to be guided by emojis these days to work out the subtleties in written English. It's getting as bad as the canned laughter on sitcoms, prompting the TV audience to laugh when expected.

Why do they need ventilators at all? I thought Trump said it would be all over and things getting back to normal by Easter.
It is all part of the Dem's hoax, he's just being a good sport and playing along now.

To be fair, a large number of our members don't speak English as a first language so it might be hard to catch subtleties and jokes. Emojis help.

I also think emojis are becoming part of everyday written conversation, almost expected. I still use a flip phone when in the U.S., and I feel like I need to add "sorry no emojis, on flip phone" because otherwise people think my brief messages are because I'm mad.

I'm a native English speaker, but I still don't get British or sometimes Aussie humo(u)r.

I laughed spontaneously. I just wondered if you did it on purpose.

I get bashed every time - by native English speakers, according to themselves - when I forget to put an emoj.

I know the feeling, agonising over whether to adorn one of my little witticisms (these can still happen from time to time) with a few emojis to make sure it doesn't get too overlooked. In fact, this could be used as a sort of barometer of the intellectual level of the forum indicating the number of users who are still bright enough to elicit some response from.
On this theme, I'm pleased to see that some users were quick witted enough to respond to my joke roughly on the lines of: "don't hold your breath waiting for ..... ventilators". For those who missed it the first time around, there is still time to demonstrate, with an acknowledgement, they are still with it. It is post #21797 on the previous page.
