Compare the demographics of voting places that were closed versus those that remained open. Ok, so might not be that difficult after all...just had to think on it a bit. I think the analysis has been done. It‘s a bit like gerrymandering. If you look at the coverage of districts on a map, they make no sense until you take into account the demographics of the people living there.
Perhaps they closed for other reasons. Poor communities are often less well funded on average. Again, without proof you may need to consider your own prejudices before arriving at such conclusions.

Or maybe you need to re-examine your own prejudices. Denying that something is racist doesn't make it any less racist.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

An interesting news item today on the topic of voter suppression

Quote:
Georgia state House Speaker David Ralston (R) is coming out against a recent effort taken by Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger (R) to mail absentee ballot request forms to all voters in the state amid the coronavirus pandemic, saying the move could be “devastating” for Republican candidates.

Last week, Raffensperger announced the state would be mailing absentee ballot request forms to its nearly 7 million voters “in an effort to allow as many Georgia voters as possible to exercise their right to vote without leaving their homes.”
Even Trump said Republicans would ‘never’ be elected again if it was easier to vote.

The guy actually says this out loud? Basically "if we let all people vote, the Republicans will most likely not win"?

Don't bother with elections. Waste of money.

Sure, for the Republicans it is a constant fight to block voters however they can. That is how you get anomalies like Hillary winning the popular vote but not the Presidency while Trump never got good numbers in polls about his approval level.

You have never heard of gerrymandering? Hard to believe!

More details of voter suppression here.
That fully applies to both sides. The GOP is just better at it so the Dems think that gives them reason to complain.

In reality however both are equally part of the problem, both should be used as shark feed.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll released Friday found that 47 percent of respondents approve of Trump's handling of the response while 52 percent disapprove.

That is a reverse from two weeks ago, when a majority approved of Trump's handling of the pandemic, 55 percent to 43 percent.

Not surprising.
He needs to build confidence not spout one lie after another.

It is also claimed two months before the novel coronavirus is thought to have begun its deadly advance in Wuhan, China, the Trump administration ended a $200-million pandemic early-warning program aimed at training scientists in China and other countries to detect and respond to such a threat.

So it's all completely legal and doesn't target any particular group of people?
Some of the voter suppression tactics used to be legal and now are not. Other decisions are implemented knowing they ride the line of legality, but generally they remain in effect while working through the court system. Or they end up being legal but affect minority voters on a disproportionate level.

Gerrymandering is legal, only as long as it doesn't discriminate against certain populations. Drawing districts in such a way that they're heavily minority is discriminatory.

Someone else above said the Rs are good gerrymandering and voter suppression. They've also had majorities in many states when the census rolled around, which meant they got more practice at drawing the lines and making the rules.

If someone or a group is targeting black communities in order to suppress their votes, that is racist, as it is a form of racial discrimination.

"Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to physical appearance, and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another. It may also mean prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity."

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

In the middle of a grave national emergency Trump has taken time to fire Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson, who had told Congress about the whistleblower complaint that led to Trump's impeachment.

This is a clear message that unless you cover up for Trump your career is gone.

Meanwhile, Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert and the only honest broker at Press conferences was dropped from Trump's coronavirus task force briefing yesterday evening.
In approval polls about people's confidence in members of the task force and other leading figures, Fauci consistently scores in the high seventies while Trump is at under fifty and trending down.
Clearly Fauci's days were numbered

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

And Trump proves yet again what an idiot he really is.

"US President Donald Trump has said he will not wear a face mask despite new medical guidance advising Americans to do so.

He could not see himself greeting "presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens" in the Oval Office while wearing one, he said.

He stressed that the guidance released on Friday was "voluntary".

"You do not have to do it," he said. "I don't think I'm going to be doing it."

The guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the government's public health advisory agency, came as the US reported at least 270,473 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with nearly 7,000 deaths."

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52161529

Since countries around the world are in lockdown exactly how does he expect to be greeting presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings and queens in the Oval Office? In case he hadn't noticed, no one is travelling anywhere - not even to meet the great Mr. Trump. And any video conferences by satellite link, etc, would be in private so who cares what he looks like.

Heaven help America if they vote him in for another 4 years.

Do you know if this was just nonattendance for some reason or removal? I hope the former. Fauci is the only person worth listening to....Birx is ok, sort of.

And then Trump puts his incompetent son-in-law in charge of ventilator /equipment acquisition. Everything kushner touches turns to garbage. Par for the course, I guess.

grifters.

Pretty sure it's illegal to discriminate against a person/community based on their race.

WH said that due to social distancing there was no room for Fauci
Trump himself said it was because they were covering "a different subject" yesterday? WTF?

Maybe this was a problem; earlier Friday, Fauci also appeared on “Fox & Friends,” one of the president’s favorite shows on cable, where he threw cold water on studies featuring antimalarial drugs that Trump has often hyped as a potential cure for coronavirus.

As illegal as it might be, these laws are enforced very lazily and a smart attorney can frame the defendant‘s way out. These laws have little teeth and the victims of such laws often haven‘t the resources to mount any sort of legal action. It would be nice if things were so black and white.
