Here is a link to the NBC news item that upset Trump.

Basically the theme is "Companies are "recycling" old job creation announcements to avoid Trump's twitter attacks"

Why do you assume they voted against their interest and themselves? Trump connects with voters in ways pollsters and the media are still not able to detect and explain.

Even though we speak the same language, there is apparently a pretty wide conceptual gap. Trump operates at a wavelength many people are not comprehending.
He obvioiusly does (connect with voters)
I find that wavelenth thought interesting. And I got 4 years to study this. (This is not meant sarcastically, it's a viewpoint I will want to check out).

What looks sounds a contradiction to you also sounds like he is saying NATO needs to be renovated. There is a conceptual gap lost in translation that people seem to quickly over-react to with Trump. It's not just you. It seems to be rampant.
Thanks for the lecture but it was not only me, it was even pointed out in the report.

As I'm still far from tuning into his wavelenth to at least understand what he's saying at the moment to me he's just a babbler - who likes to hear himself talk as we say here and is so overwhelmed that everybody (has to) listen to him now that he can't stop. ROFL. So far all I can hear is the sound of his voice ....

If you're serious, look for the presentation Anthony Scaramucci held at WEF in Davos yesterday explaining Trump. He worked on the Trump campaign, and translated the experience for the global wavelength. And then compare it to the news reports you've been consuming. It demonstrates how amateur news reporting is these days.

The Scaramucci who used to be known for pushing overpriced investment products; like some people known to EFers?

Basically Scaramucci's explanation of Trump consisted of claiming all Trump's policy statements so far were the reverse of the truth?
In this Scaramucci is following the same approach as the Cabinet nominees in their Senate confirmation hearings.

About "then compare it to the news reports you've been consuming" actually we have been consuming Trump tweets not news reports; it will be good news if he does the opposite of what he was tweeting but will lead us to no longer believe what he tweets

check out the rubin report on youtube. nice balanced show by a liberal, but not a libtard. perhaps you can sieve out a feeling for why people voted trump simply as a reaction to "crazy left" that clinton heavily relied on in addition to her "normal left". i bet most people here on this forum are really close to this sort of new and growing center.

some short messages from rubin himself below, but also check out the interviews especially with "enemies of the left" like pj watson, milo, shapiro if you want to think in bridges.

It'd be novel to hear Trump read something he'd actually written himself; something more than 140 characters. Given that he didn't write his own "best-selling books", I doubt he'd be capable of writing an inauguration speech.

think in bridges.

I watch the Rubin Report. Ben Shapiro is a smart guy. But then you bring up Milo who is so obviously a fraud and troll that I don't know how you're blind to it. But then people thought Trump was a compelling speaker.

Anyway, isn't Shapiro considered a "cuckservative" by your ilk these days? What's the alt-right's obsession with the word "cuck" anyway? You believe in Pizzagate, don't you?

I don't know why I'm asking these questions. Thinking in bridges is one thing, but I'm not ready to do what is the intellectual equivalent of sniffing glue.

Try smelling salt? Not everyone believes everything they hear or read.

Try thinking for yourself and only yourself. Don't let anyone think for you, nor try to think for anyone else.

We have a culture and tradition of allowing everybody to have their own opinions and beliefs. We'll need to exercise this going forward.

Sorry. I was just talking with some friends in the 'states. They described how ridiculously difficult it is today to have any kind of open conversation. You never know who melts down over what, so people stay mum.

They are finding it somewhat oppressive. And to think we were suppose to be about free thought and speech. They described it as something you would have expected in the USSR, GDR or North Korea, but not the US.

We're hoping to put this period away ASAP. Maybe after Friday, people can begin to get on with their real personal lives and stop abusing each other. YMMV.

Everyone is fine as long as they come out and say positive things about Trump (especially on here ). Dare to raise your head and ask a few uncomfortable questions and you are instantly gunned down in a hail of derision.

Not everyone who has reservations about Trump's forthcoming administration is a snowflake on the verge of a meltdown. But of course that's the easiest way for Trump fans to deflect from the uncomfortable questions, isn't it?

Most are just concerned about the newbie snowflake-in-chief who is just about to be handed the keys the Oval office.

Shapiro is great, always been.
Milo is an internet self promoting diva, there was an interesting fall out between those two, Shapiro is smarter so he won in my opinion.

Just the fact those opinions and whoever has a diff view than lib is considered "enemy" is sad. And discrediting, they have no idea how much, how could they - they are busy protesting and yelling, revolution and combat style. Watch the anti-Trump events, lol, commie revolutions in my territory's history were similar. Mob. Europe has that over the US - we still listen to eachother's ideas. And can buckle down and bow to unpleasant truths, accept them in order to rebuild.

Sowell is good, too, Trucker makes me lol how efficient he is. Molyneux gets a tad bitter and polarizing, imho, still a good mental exercise to follow. Peterson is great - but I am partial since we are both in edu (hope he still is, he was threatened with losing his job over not spreading some prescripted pseudo facts and attitudes).

I really like Peterson, too. Molyneux I found compelling for a while, but got repetitive, before he completely lost me with his "Truth About Robin Williams" video/podcast some years back. The guy clearly has issues with women and that clouds his judgement.

So yeah, we listen to the "other side". Coincidentally, all the IMO smartest right-leaning people find absolutely nothing compelling about Trump at face value, except as some kind of unpredictable agent of chaos that will (hopefully?) bring some positive change.

Indeed, that's what I meant about bitter and purposely polarizing. I still like to think about other issues he debates. And do understand the outrage over the fem-lib outrage, since it is so aggressive and unintelligent in the US, doesn't help chicks one squat. I think Europe is able to distance itself from vindictive views and victimization a little better. I do not think we need hostility or extremism the way Molyneux is reaching out for, intellectually, in order to give some voices a fair platform. Shapiro has that over him, he doesn't compromize on his ethics, where both Milo and Molyneux both pointlessly push entertainment, hostility or outrage.

Has anyone mildly intelligent ever expected anything extraordinary from politicians at face values? Why do it now and promote just a mere politician to a prophetic post.

The Trump win is a trump. But will be long gone soon, what it does have is a potential to change the climate (no, not the notion of eco climatic change I guess, ha) in order for people to start listening the other views, create space for non extremists. I do not think Trump is an extremist at all. He just says the society needs to make cash first, before fighting about where to spend it.

"He just says the society needs to make cash first, before fighting about where to spend it" A very valid point and a good approach.

Hopefully the legacy he leaves at the end of his tenure will reflect this and the other baggage that comes with Trump will not detract too much.

I agree he's no extremist. That would require some kind of intelligence, which I don't believe he has, or if he has, he hides it well and for no real reason.

He's a businessman but a reckless one. Risks are one thing but whatever risks he's taken, he's lost a lot on the way.

He changed his language to appeal to the easy-to-please end of the voters - push their buttons, collect the votes, but I am in no doubt that he will drop them like a hot brick as soon as he gets his power.

Agree that a sea change from the top down is in order but this hyper-sensitive narcissist will create way more problems than he solves.

thats right. i brought up milo since he is probably the worst enemy of the left because he is the most offensive (on purpose). weather him out and you can handle anything i would say. i personally find him entertaining but he has nothing to say i find particularly interesting because i am past it already. his only purpose is to get people past the "im offended so i stop listening" stage in general. like flooding therapy for phobias.

what about watson though? are you gonna go "watson - infowars - alex jones - conspiratard" and dismiss him that way? exactly the point of why he was on rubin report - jones is an idiot, watson is not but they are linked so watson is too for the left.

all three i mentioned are religious so im already disagreeing with them on basic levels. we can think in bridges in the sense that we filter out the ideas per se of a person, rather than dismissing him as a whole because of one idea you disagree with.

Shapiro is great, always been.
Milo is an internet self promoting diva, there was an interesting fall out between those two, Shapiro is smarter so he won in my opinion.
At the moment, such renegades are the few who are publicly taking an anti-totalitarian stand. Whether we like them or not, or agree with them or not, it is important to allow.

Their ideas are nothing new, its just in sharp contrast to what is being peddled in the mainstream. I don't think anyone would pay attention to these two if it weren't for the over-reaction they generate.

There is irony and hilarity here I'm waiting for people to come out of. The left and the right switched places in position and dynamics, and I'm wondering when they realise they've become their own worse nightmares.

Its hilarious how they try to project Milo as a Nazi, and then they meltdown and start behaving like Nazis. I think most of their fears is not Milo himself, but something within themselves.

Its also hilarious how Shapiro might be construed as a white supremacist bigot, and then to find out he's Orthodox Jew.

Milo is a lot more entertaining than Shapiro, although I think Shapiro is sharper in intellect. Milo still speaks from a social, historical and cultural standpoint, whereas Shapiro is more philosophical.

On follies of race politics, I find more leftist hilarity with Sonnie Johnson, a black conservative woman. There was another guy, I can't remember his name

Just as this is somewhat newish, I'm sure (or hoping) that this too will pass.
