It seems to me that he gets criticized for the opposite, too - stuboorn and not changing his oppinions as others would like him to.
That's one of the side effects of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

We can only hope. I can't believe the doctor would say the benefits outweigh the risks. Maybe for Trump specifically (I doubt it).

Such a blanket statement is irresponsible imo, and likely to lead to thousands of people asking their doctors for an unnecessary prescription as well.
Trump's doctor did say that, read his letter here!!

What is the expression I am searching for? Maybe "the inmates have taken over the asylum"?

We should open other threads on other statesmen. It will be a hit, too.

Not in my lifetime. And given my lifetime includes Bush 2 that's a pretty low bar.

On which other statesmen are you an internet expert?
We could open an appropriate thread for you, or you could open it yourself?

There are some threads about Putin, Kim Jong-un, Erdogan, Merkel, I think even Macron, but they're not as spicy as this one.

Stop posting facts, it just confuses people

Then there are Corbyn & Starmer, Edward Heath, Misharref, Prince Harry(OK maybe not a statesman?), Prince Andrew not spicy? (OK maybe also not a statesman?).

But sure, more threads about statemen always welcome in my small corner

They're nothing. They didn't even appear in Home Alone.

Trump is following his usual playbook of doubling down on points where he is criticised. While this often works for him in business and politics, in health matters he risks causing multiple deaths (which he will blame on others).

Yeah, not really "morbidly" I think......but well, if he's telling stories about taking hydroxychloroquine to ward off the coronavirus....

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Seems Trump is running scared of letting people vote. Illegally threatening to withhold funds from Michigan and Nevada if they dare to enable postal votes to enable people to vote in Coronavirus times. This by mailing a postal vote request form to all voters and not - as Trump lied - mailing actual voting forms.

University of Texas Law Professor tweeted

Quote:
In a single tweet, the President:

1) Lies (that’s not what MI is doing);

2) Asserts without support that someone else is breaking the law;

3) Threatens action that would itself be unconstitutional; &

4) All in service of an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory about voter fraud.
Original Trump tweet

Quote:
Breaking: Michigan sends absentee ballots to 7.7 million people ahead of Primaries and the General Election. This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State. I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!..

I don’t understand what he is worried about. Making it easier to vote simply makes it easier to vote be it Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Devout, Agnostics, etc.

His base, which is decidedly at high risk from viruses, would love an opportunity to not stand in queues (sorry, lines) come judgement day.

The UDC doesn’t oppose postal ballots!

I'll go with Trump shaming, because he is overweight and it's not necessarily the best idea for him to take it. It's an even worse idea for him to promote it to the general public as some magical cure or even preventative.

He doesn't. He's not stupid. People like him have other possibilities, in case they need medical care. I heard the treatment with convalescent plasma (plus of course other stuff) is the most effective....

However, it is irresponsible to promote it the way he does. And disingenuous.

Well the GOP has made a science of gerrymandering and similar actions that have made it difficult for Democratic voters to vote.
Avoiding locating polling booths in such areas or a long way from public transport, etc. so mail-in voting will benefit these voters.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Trump is becoming increasingly paranoid and delusional. I think he sees himself going down in the polls, and it's driving him insane (or rather, even more insane), because his ego can't handle the thought of losing. Apparently, his Twitter tantrums have been at an all-time high lately, as he is increasingly using it to make random attacks and completely unfounded accusations against people.

As for the use of Chloroquine, though... I've read a few studies that have actually found it to be somewhat effective in treating COVID-19 (e.g. lessening the severity of symptoms and/or the length of illness), including the following:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32173110/

What is unclear, though, is whether the benefits outweigh the risks.

Apparently, Switzerland has also been using it to treat COVID patients.

Sure but Trump claims he is using Chloroquine as a prophylactic which use is less well supported in the literature.

Quote:
The American College of Physicians (ACP) says that evidence does not support the use of chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine alone or in combination with azithromycin to prevent COVID-19 after infection with novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), or for treatment of patients with COVID-19.

Edit; a known side effect is diarrhea
