| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | I am just watching this again, an extremely powerful and thoughtful documentary on the birth of what was to become Trumpism after the 2008 financial crisis and the growing divide in the US. Interviews are great.
"It hardly comes as news to say the US is deeply polarized politically. Yet "America's Great Divide" -- a four-hour, two-night Frontline documentary -- not only traces the roots of that division through the Obama and Trump presidencies, but comes close to concluding that the situation is beyond repair." https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/f...bama-to-trump/ | | | | | Actually the full individual interviews (available on Youtube) are even better than the documentary itself. Especially the Republican ones (Schmidt, Luntz ... Coulter .... even Bannon).

I was thinking individual interviews might be more interesting than slogging through the whole thing, but never thought to hunt on YT.

The opposite of parting on good terms. | Quote: | | | | Former CIA Director John Brennan on Monday took to Twitter to announce that he now plans “to ignore Trump,” and will “leave his fate to our judicial system, his infamy to history, & his legacy to a trash heap.”
“For four years, I spoke out vigorously against Donald Trump’s craven dishonesty, the corrupt pursuit of personal interests, & trampling of our democratic principles,”
“After serving over three decades in national security, I felt compelled to condemn Trump’s depravity & incompetence.” | | | | | Now in his lame-duck period, Donny is taking aim at the disabled. | Quote: | | | | President Trump is making sure to wreak as much havoc on Social Security as he can in the final months of his term.
Now the Trump administration is trying to make it harder for workers with disabilities to collect Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is finalizing two new rules that, in the words of Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), “would weaken the promise of Social Security for Americans struggling with a disability.” | | | | | Source |

This trump executive order came into effect last Friday | Quote: | | | | Team Trump@TeamTrump Jul 24

: “We will finally allow the safe and legal importation of prescription drugs from Canada and other countries where the price for the identical drug is incredibly lowered.” | | | | | So the Canadians | Quote: | | | | Canadian officials, responding to a move by President Trump allowing Americans to import some prescription drugs, blocked bulk importation of drugs in cases in which a domestic shortage would be created.
The order took effect Friday ahead of the U.S. rule, which drug suppliers have warned could lead to shortages within Canada, | | | | | Source

That’s the capitalist way, charge what the market will bear; don’t worry about how many lives it will cost. Oh and big profits mean big campaign contributions.

Peaceful Protestors were disgracefully treated | Quote: | | | | Portland, Ore., violated a court order restricting police use of tear gas, a federal judge ruled Monday evening, finding the city in contempt.
The June 26 order by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Marco Hernandez restricted use of tear gas and other crowd control devices to scenarios in which public or police safety is at risk. It barred any such tactics against protesters using passive resistance.
Hernandez found multiple violations of the order during a protest outside the Portland Police Administration’s (PPA) headquarter son June 30. | | | | | Meanwhile, former FBI director James Comey will begin teaching at Columbia Law School next year.
I do not know if I find this tweet is funny or sad. | Quote: | | | | Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
“Democrats suffered crushing down-ballot loss across America.” @nytimes.
This is true.
All statehouses won, and in Washington we did great.
So I led this great charge, and I’m the only one that lost?
No, it doesn’t work that way. This was a massive fraud, a RIGGED ELECTION! | | | | | Probably this tweet will be quoted in future analyses of Trump's presidency as an example of how he was unable to accept he was unpopular and lost.

He was certainly not universally popular. But he got 70m votes. Contentious might be a better word.
In several ways, he certainly was his own worst enemy.
