I guess that the next step is for Trump to claim Scottish citizenship, and become PM!

America already has a Day of Patriotism - it's the 4th of July. Guess Trump forgot about that one. | The following 4 users would like to thank Medea Fleecestealer for this useful post:

Can they not just quietly slither away somewhere.. set up an allotment, keep chickens.. anything. | | | | | To be honest, I thought they handled it well. What a crushing day for her, after building up all her hopes and dreams only to sit there and watch someone else get sworn in...for the second time in her life. Whatever you think of her as a politician, she's a human being under all that. I say well done to the Clintons for putting country above person, and attending even though it must have been painful. | Quote: | | | | | That is because Obama acted on his own instead of building political consensus... | | | | | How exactly was he supposed to do that? The Republicans made it clear from the first day of his first term they would do everything possible to ensure he was a one-term president. They put up whatever roadblocks they could at every turn. Although he still had 2 terms thanks to the voters, he wasn't able to do much in terms of his "legacy". | Quote: | | | | | I guess that the next step is for Trump to claim Scottish citizenship, and become PM! | | | | | Think bigger, Tom. He needs Scotland to vote for independence from the UK and set up a government like the USA. Then he can just run for president of Scotland and he can be president on two continents. WIN!

The coverage in the papers this morning is rather good.
If any of you have kids and can get your hands on The Times (UK), they’ve done a great spread sheet on all the 45 presidents with quotes, dates & pics.
My kids were intrigued and fascinated by it all morning.

It's story telling by a guy who wrote a book about Trump within 27 days and a bunch of articles before that. There is a lot of "imagine" in his speech ("imagine the conversation between ..." some judge related to Trump, etc). I only watched 1/3 .... so maybe the relevant stuff came after, I allow myself to doubt it. | Quote: | | | | | this seems to be best hope..

I don't get how a very rich man who's enjoyed the protection of bankrupcy while taking mlllions from small time investors, can claim politicians took all the money. It's people like him, businesses that get to take risks without facing consequences, they got all the money, and now he's in charge of the chicken coop.

Reading Trump's tweets I am strangely reminded of Muammar Gaddafi, who claimed to be merely a symbolic figurehead of the country's official governance structure.
He entitled himself "The Brotherly Leader and Guide of the Revolution".
He claimed Libya was run by the people and claimed his ideology was based on the idea of direct democracy, and direct decision-making of all citizens on all political matters.
Across the country there were the basic people's congresses, which were considered the original holders of sovereignty.
At the top of this tree were the General People's Congress (legislative body) and the General People's Committee (executive body).
So I wonder how Trump will implement his tweet "January 20th 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again."
I doubt he will set up anything like the people's congresses but you never know |

And the stifling of the opposition begins, even if in just a small way.
"A handful of Canadians heading down to the massive women's rights rally in Washington say they were turned away at the border.
A few also report being questioned before reluctantly being allowed into the US.
Hundreds of Canadians travelled to the US to participate in the Women's March on Washington.
Thousands more are taking part in companion rallies planned in cities across the country.
Sasha Dyck will be marching in Montreal after he and seven others were turned away by US officials at the Lacolle border crossing between the province of Quebec and New York State.
The 34-year-old Montrealer say they told border agents they were heading to the Washington rally.
"We were told to pull aside, cars were searched, we were fingerprinted and photographed, they confiscated our phones and asked us to unlock them," he told the BBC.
"They asked us a few questions, about whether we there to disrupt or anything like that but mostly had to stew for about two hours and then they told us: 'You're going home, going back to Canada.'"
He said they were not given a reason for being turned away. He also said two companions who were French nationals were told that for any subsequent trips to the US they would need visas.
"I had a feeling they didn't like the look of us, just thought we would be a hassle, that it would be easier to turn us back," he said.
Joseph Decunha, a 20-year-old Montrealer, was also turned back at the Lacolle crossing. He said he was asked specifically if he, his partner and a friend supported or opposed Trump.
"We were forthcoming and explained we were quite vehemently anti-(Trump)," he said.
US Customs and Border Protection has said it was not at liberty to discuss individual cases.
An Ontario couple, Amber Gazdic and husband Chris Bolestridge, told the CBC they were pulled aside at the Niagara Falls border crossing and told "that, as Canadians, we had no right to go and participate in this march".
Ms Gazdic said: "It's none of our business, and Canada has its own problems we should address. The impression that we got was that they were looking for a reason to not allow entry."
The couple were eventually allowed to cross after an hour of questioning." http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38694437 | This user would like to thank Medea Fleecestealer for this useful post:

President Donald Trump has accused the media of dishonestly reporting that there were empty spaces on the National Mall at his inauguration. Source
From the photos of The Women's march it looks like more attended than came to Trump's inauguration.
This morning, Washington Metro Ridership reported nearly 100,000 more rides taken today than yesterday: for comparison, that's more than 8x a normal Saturday.

There's a danger to crying wolf too often, and the media will play this to their advantage.

Thinking about it, his speech makes perfect sense if you're a patriotic american with inherited wealth who has to pay taxes on their non hard earned gains, engaging in pissing matches over who has the largest army.
