Nothing new, the security personnel on site Jan 6 included what looked like snipers, you may want to re-watch the footage. They're just no use for ordinary crowd control.
The snipers were likely secret service or police.

In the past, the National Guard were forbidden to carry weapons in D.C,

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

There has been a lot of buzz in the media about whether the Senate can actually convict and block Trump after he's left office. Scholars seem split, but it does seem possible depending on which bits of the constitution you read.

Two articles I found interesting:

There's also a question of whether he'd be entitled to all the perks of being a former president, such as salary, paid staff, etc.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

You can do a lot of things that would, on the first look (and on the second) look seem unconstitutional and are yet legal.

After all, nobody thought the surveillance-programs, the "enhanced interrogation" of prisoners (or rather: non-military combatants) and a whole lot of other stuff, the 3-letter agencies and their contractors do and did were legal to begin with.

The question is really: do you want to go there?
