Thanks but I will stick with Gallup that shows Trump’s approval rating is lower than any prior new president. ; Rasmussen Reports is a conservative leaning American polling company that somehow produces different numbers

Google is Trumps friend.

Anyway he is threatening to censor the internet in the US. Welcome to the Brave New World.

I still can't believe there are actual Trump supporters on this Forum! I have no concept of the info bubbles that they are caught in, but it probably echos the I'll be Tremendous ones.

"Anonymous Nasa officials set up 'rogue' Twitter account to resist Trump."

Seems there are now at least 14 "resistance" accounts set up privately by employees of different federal agencies to distribute information forbidden by Trump!!
Who would have thought it necessary in the USA in this day and age?

Why?
Assuming that there is % of Americans on here - and overall the vote was 50/50 - and even if you allow for theoretical educational bias (IE more degree educated people voted Clinton) you'd still have a % that voted trump.

You may also be confusing an "Anyone-but-Clinton" supporter or a "democratic process" supporter for a Trump supporter.

Whatever Trump does while in power can not be influenced by you, me or the Guardian. He was voted in by the democratic process in place in the US - however right or wrong that may be, and with the support of the House and the Senate be able to pass through pretty much whatever he wants.

Assuming that the actual voting public aren't in favour of his Republican policies they can vote in Democratic representatives to the House and Senate at the next round of elections - and effectively block his law making ability.

If one thing 2016 politics has taught me is that bad losers are noisier than ever - and happy to resort to put downs rather than focus on their own politics.

Clinton/Remain lost because they failed to address the concerns of a large portion of the voting public - whether those concerns are real or hyperbole.

Muslims and immigrants are not going to steal your children and eat them - but that doesn't mean that people don't have concerns about immigration, even if those concerns are unfounded. Trump/Brexit did a far better job of answering their questions even if they don't deliver on their promises.

The harder the line is pushed that they stupid/old/etc voted for Trump/Brexit then the chances are the more staunch their support will become. Perhaps the left needs to spend its time looking at why it lost rather than rallying against the side that won and generally making itself look foolish.

Democracy does not include outright lies to your people, decieving people into voting for you is manipulation! I didn't think you cared that much about the old country Tom? did you not move to Ticino to escape it, or were you just so anti liberal you thought this place was more conservative Maybe it's time to move back, but what with the 20% hike in Mexican imports you might be better off here for your Tamales.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

It's hard to select quotes on a phone!

@DK, you have valid points, but the public in both instances were sold lies, and very cleverly manipulated by algorithms both deliberately and unintentionally, throw malicious interference from certain foreign powers into the mix and we can see how quickly and dangerously the world has flipped politically! This is the intention. So don't believe it's all down to democratical processes.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

The positive thing about Trump getting elected is that it has forced the layman and armchair activist to actually learn something about the government and politics, still a long way to go, but at least people are starting to question how things are done.

Many of the items Trump is being attacked for, have been done for many years, by many other politicians--quietly under the radar of the comfortable everyday person, at least they're paying attention now.

This thread actually flows quite well and, dare I say it, raises interesting points on both sides when you are away from it and not chucking in some pithy and wholly irrelevant fluff to disrupt it all again.

You realise you can just "think" these kinds of comments without having to bash it down on the keyboard, don't you?

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

The US President has to deal with real problems in the real world, and.those problems are ugly. If you only had an idea of some of the real things that happen in the real world, you wouldn't really be able to handle it if you can't even handle Trump.

The US President is not there for the purpose of psychological comfort of anyone and everyone in the world. He's not your Daddy. For that, look someone else. Go talk to your real daddy, talk to clergy, a friend, a therapist, or whatever.

Its an adult world, and this is a topic for adults. If you can't handle it, go focus on attention on something else.
