LOL no Tv in our home whenI was a kid. All the children from my neighbourhood knocked on the door of the only neighbour who had tv- Wednesday and Saturday - 4 to 5.30 - Rintintin, Black Beauty Laurel and Hardy ... no news but we had to listen on the wireless and no-one dared speak during the news for sure.

Really?!!!!!
If your username relates to your year of birth, then maybe you weren't a child who was exposed to the news, but when I was a kid, there was one tv in the home and the news was sacrosanct. If you couldn't be quiet whilst the news was on, you were banished to your bedroom until it was over.
I remember being 4yrs old and utterly convinced that Robert Dougal (who read the 1 O'Clock news) was Dougal the Dog from The Magic Roundabout with his hair tied back. | | | | | I remember coming home from junior school and watching the afternoon news from Buffalo, much of which was about Vietnam. After dinner we would watch the CBC. If there wasn't a "decent" film on, we read, or talked about what had been on the news.

I mean they cannot realistically expect people who voted for Trump to withdraw their votes even if there was any mechanism to do that.
Also the US Constitution would not enable Trump'selection to be cancelled.
Reminds me of Canute trying to stop the tide!

Every Sunday morning, I used to watch 'The World At War' tv series with my grandfather. He believed it was important for me and my brother to understand what went before, and to give his own (first hand) account of events shown in the series.

I think the peaceful protesters want to get Trump's attention and remind him that he's not just president for his supporters, and they're concerned if he makes some of his rhetoric into law. Of course he's said he wants to be a president for all Americans so he deserves a chance to show that.

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | You are probably the sanest person on here. What are your thoughts on some of the points in his contract for his first days? | | | | | Thanks for the compliment!
As far as the contract, I dislike/disagree with a lot of it, especially on the healthcare (replacing ACA with Health Savings Accounts), on trade, immigration policy, and the blatant disregard for environmental considerations.
There are a couple of things that are not that bad, IMO, such as parents having the ability to decide where their kids go to school (as opposed to tying school attendance to home location and creating property-tax fueled distortions), and providing incentives to employers for on-site childcare facilities, as well as enhanced individual deductions for child care and elder care.
I am not thrilled with the appointment of a conservative Supreme Court justice.
Again, he said what he wants to do, but not how, so I am curious to see how this will all pan out. I could see some old school Republicans in the House and Senate (think McCain, for example) striking "deals" with some of the Democrats to try and blockade some of this stuff. But who knows.

My two kids watch the news because I do. We also listen to the radio every day and the news is on there too. I tend to pause tv news, or fast forward, if there is anything gruesome like a rape report etc. They both know all about Trump, Clinton, Theresa May, Corbyn etc. Not the full facts or inner workings of politics but they know a good deal. My daughter knows Trump is sexist and racist because her brother told her, even though she doesn't fully understand what it means. She even sang a song last week about Hillary's Higgledy House
Kids are like sponges and soak up lots and lots of info. My son said this week it's a disaster Trump has been elected, I offer the opposite thinking by commenting that we do not know anything yet until he begins making decisions and we do not know how influential and knowledgable his advisory team will be.
Lots of twisted knickers on full grown adults at the moment.. amazing how kids just accept and take things in their stride without losing their reason, no matter how limited (or not) their understanding is.

Not guilty, though there is a certain shiftiness to the way I look.

In this case "elderly" is anybody older than the poster | This user would like to thank marton for this useful post: | |
