Roger Stone, a longtime adviser and confidant to Donald Trump who has been named in news reports as one of at least four individuals under FBI observation over alleged contacts with Russian intelligence, has called for an official inquiry into the swirling crisis.

Stone has called on the White House to order an immediate investigation through the Department of Justice over alleged improper links between members of the Trump inner circle and the Kremlin during the course of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump Feb 13

Wonderful meeting with Canadian PM @JustinTrudeau and a group of leading CEO's & business women from Canada and the United States🇺🇸
Back to 2013 - with characteristic salesmanship, Donald Trump bragged that the 63-storey glass tower [Trump International Hotel and Tower Vancouver] on West Georgia Street, Vancouver, Canada would be “one of the great buildings, not only in Canada and the US but anywhere in the world”.

The Vancouver development — the first Trump hotel property to open since his inauguration on January 20 — highlights the potential for conflict for a sitting president who has refused to sever ties with his still-expanding business empire.

Strongest rumour around is that the leaks are from the US Dept of Justice by people who believe that Trump was wrong to fire acting attorney general Sally Yates who was investigating Michael Flynn's Russia cover-up.

Labor Secretary nominee Puzder has withdrawn. Probably a good idea given that he'd employed an undocumented worker in the past.

Bannon accuses Breitbart of publishing lies...

Quote:
Bannon, who was executive chairman of Breitbart before becoming Donald Trump's chief strategist, slammed the right-wing website on Wednesday for a report suggesting that White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus might lose his job.

"Not upset - livid," is how Bannon described his feelings about the article to CNN. "The story is totally untrue. Reince is doing a great job. I couldn't ask any more from a partner."

The cooks on r/The_Donald are already gunning for Priebus' head and are sure he's the White House mole. Many aren't happy about the Russia revelations and Trump's new attitude towards leaks and transparency (they love Wikileaks) either. It's been a good week.

Karma!!

Matter of interest did Bannon actually resign from Breitbart

There were plenty of news stories saying he would resign but I never found one that confirmed he did?

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Interesting comment article in the ft today claiming (amongst other xlaims) that Putin's hopes of a quick deal with Donald must be fading!

Source (might be behind a paywall)!

Some quotes!

Quote:
The third question, made more urgent by the lengthy delay between the White House’s discovery of Mr Flynn’s mendacity and his sacking, asks the old Watergate question — just what did the president know and when?
Quote:
Raging against those responsible for leaking classified material will not do it for Mr Trump. This is a politician who publicly applauded Russian hacking of the Democratic party presidential campaign.
Quote:
So far Mr Trump’s infamous tweets against the agencies and the media have done nothing but validate various reports in The New York Times and Washington Post and on CNN about the extensive nature of contacts with Moscow.
Quote:
Mr Flynn offered a glimpse in his resignation letter of the Alice-in-Wonderland world that is today’s White House. In three short weeks, he said, the president had restored “America’s leadership position” in the world.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Watching his recent press conferences where he reads prepared scripts and gives rambling responses (weaving in his amazing victory, crooked Hillary, fake news, failing NYT etc..) its clear that he's just not interested.

The prize was winning and rubbing everyone's face in it, not all the boring stuff he now has to deal with.

Yep. He's not in it for the long haul. He has the attention span of a flea. Not a detail guy either.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Good to see that Neue Zürcher Zeitunghave got an angle on Bannon...

https://www.nzz.ch/international/akt...erer-ld.145648

...but the news stories that I find more disturbing than anything, particularly based upon Bannon's own words in the NeueZürcher Zeitung video, are this from 10 Feb...
Quote:
Assad would "welcome" U.S. troops to Syria, on his terms
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bashar-a...nty-respected/ ...and this from yesterday...
Quote:
Pentagon might propose sending ground troops to Syria
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/02/15/po...oops-in-syria/

There's a lot of ifs, buts and maybes, but if Bannon really does have the President's ear, this may be a course of action we will soon see. I sincerely hope not! I can't see which of the factions fighting Daesh in Syria that US troops could be deployed with.

I'm with you, yet that may soon be a minor thing: Bannon predicts war in the South China sea within 5-10 years. That's what he'll have Trump prepare for and probably move towards, which of course may well be the actual trigger if he turns out to be right.

Now, he says the US themselves will be at war, not some proxy country like Vietnam or the Philippines (plus a simultaneous one in the middle east). That can only mean he thinks of a US war against China directly.

Agreed, but I don't believe the people of the US have the stomach for war at the moment whereas Bannon is itching for a fight.
