They didn't have much stomach for fighting in Europe and the Pacific in 1941 and then again few had heard of Afghanistan and knew what the acronym "UBL" meant before 9/11-2001.
I'd say betting against the stupidity/gullibility of the (American) public is a bit risky...

Some economic warfare, a campaign of covert espionage against the Chinese, to provoke an overt retaliation - along with media collusion to direct public opinion - and he'd have his war.
Or a false flag operation.. http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2015/...g-attacks.html |

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | Watching his recent press conferences where he reads prepared scripts and gives rambling responses (weaving in his amazing victory, crooked Hillary, fake news, failing NYT etc..) its clear that he's just not interested.
The prize was winning and rubbing everyone's face in it, not all the boring stuff he now has to deal with. | | | | | No no no, he has ADHD, but a very manageable form that can be channeled into MAGA.

I think Trump wouldn't need WMDs or a false flag operation, he may well be rhetorically good enough to talk the USA into war. And if not there's always the possibility of forcing one, for instance by officially recognizing Taiwan as sovereign country, to name just one obvious potential casus belli.
If someone's convinced war can't be avoided, it's rational to go for first-mover advantage. Doesn't mean the basis is rational, just the 2nd step.

It's a Pakistani bank, apparently.
(Honestly, I'd never heard "UBL" before today. And just about every media outlet spells it "Osama".)

Flurry of tweets today complaining about "leaks"
At least it seems to have taken his mind off renewing his Muslim ban?
Is flurry a good collective noun for this ?
I also considered flock, swarm and gaggle!
I thought storm was too strong but maybe shower fitted better?

Deutsche Bank was under federal investigation for aiding Russian money-laundering,
In January a US regulator, the New York Department of Financial Services, fined Deutsche Bank $425m for laundering around $10bn of Russian money. The UKs Financial Conduct Authority imposed a £163m fine, its largest ever.
The US Department of Justice is still investigating the Russian scheme.
Deutsche Bank has loaned hundreds of millions of dollars to Donald Trump, according to an analysis by Bloomberg, Trump now owes Deutsche around $300m. .
The presidents immediate family are also Deutsche clients. The bank has accounts held by Ivanka Trump, the presidents daughter, her husband, Jared Kushner, who serves as a White House adviser, and Kushners mother. Source |

A rich vein of unimaginable stories! | Quote: | | | | Out of the loop: Rex Tillerson finds state department sidelined by White House
America’s top diplomat is operating with senior staff positions left vacant, his deputy vetoed and foreign policy made by an ideological clique around Trump.
Tillerson has had lunch with Trump since taking the job, but he was taken by surprise when the president at the last moment rejected his choice of deputy secretary of state, Elliott Abrams, because Abrams had criticised him during the campaign. Tillerson had previously assured Bob Corker, the chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee, that he would have a free hand in choosing staff.
Neither he nor his staff were consulted on the executive order imposing a travel ban on refugees and nationals of seven predominantly Muslim countries. A memo strongly dissenting from the policy has been signed by about 1,000 state department employees. | | | | | Source

Full report on Trump's Press conference today here
Some reporters described his performance as "unhinged", anyway judge for yourselves!
He managed to remind us that he had a great election victory, the Appeal court made a bad decision and Washington is full of leaks

It takes a thief to catch a thief...
;-) | | | | | This was basically Trump's argument with respect to his taxes. He doesn't need to release them because no one is interested, and he knows all the loopholes so well only he can fix the broken tax system. That press conference was gold. Trump never fails to entertain. Enjoy the ride folks, who knows when it's going to end | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | The caring Left, "We shouldn't stigmatise mental health... TRUMP'S A F**K ING MENTAL"

#45 can be a flaming narcissistic asshat of the highest order, but since he seems not to experience impairment or difficulties from it, is it fair to consider him mentally ill? Yeah, maybe. You can be a jerk and still have a mental illness.
Anyway, it's still wrong to stigmatize mental illnesses and #45 is still a narcissist. Works both ways.

People's futures, lives and livelihoods depend on him doing so. And just so you know, I watched the full press conference. He had a few good moments and I'll happily give him that because there was a glimmer of what he become with the right people behind him helping him to evolve into the role, but too many moments were dire. His misintepretation of the Jewish reporters question was poor, and never use stats to the media that you haven't had varified because they will catch you out. It was embarassing when Trump was caught out with Obama's 2008 Electoral College number and if I were him, somebody would be getting a bollocking for not double checking that info.

Can the mods release the names of the 34 people who voted "yes" in this poll? I badly need to sell them one of my bridges.
