At age 10, I decided to become an engineer. 47 years later I still am.

The only thing I ever studied that was totally useless was Spanish (the first foreign language I studied, then I went to France for a year).

Tom
You are unhappy about Spanish!

I had to learn Latin and Welsh

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Uggg---Spanish is the one thing I wish I did learn. Although nothing is quite as relaxing as spending many weeks a year in Spanish-speaking countries using nothing more than a 'Que?' to shoo people away. Oddly enough, it works beautifully in the US as well.

It's not just the US sadly.
I know a lovely South African family who've been allowed to home school their kids because they don't want their creationist views tainted by outside influence, even though the mother is poorly educated herself. She's an absolutely lovely woman, but all she teaches her kids is art and creationism. No science, geography, literature, history, etc...

I've long believed that a lot of America's ills come from religion not being taught in schools.

There isn't a person who went to my school who doesn't fondly remember Peter Pius Patrick Mather. RE teacher, devout Christian, part-time rugby coach, and fascinated by World religions. He single handly created more agnostics and atheists than anyone I've ever known!
At my school they taught us an outline of the major religions; surprisingly useful in later life.

I do not want to turn this into a religious discussion but!
One issue I have with religion is that if you believe in God then you are obliged to believe in the Devil.
I know a number of otherwise very nice people who were living in fear because they believed they were somehow targeted by the Devil or treated others badly because they believed they were influenced by the Devil.
Sad business.

Not true, in myriad religions. Many religions don't even support belief in a 'god', let alone a 'devil'.

Sorry, OT, back to Trump...

Naw, you folks are doing as expected. I heard play-doh, colouring books and therapy dogs are your remedies.

Who said anything about "hating" christians? I think you're giving Phos more credence than he is due. He's just stirring and I'll play along until I'm bored.

love it. if you people had half the mind phos has, you could see a few more moves ahead.

if you flip "christian" for "muslim" all you guys are caught with the pants down because the left loves them but hates the christians (because white men).

the left forced us to make this choice. i hate the pro-life and creationism currently on my plate but its better than the alternative that contains all of the above + more.

its dubbed "regressive left" for a reason.

Hmmm... on an internet forum? Really? Are you projecting?

The thing is it wouldn't be so bad if you offered something to the discussion, Phos. You just seem to be hellbent on some kind of attention-seeking derailment of the thread.

There have been a lot of reasonable and interesting points of view put forth.

You don't seem to contribute to any thread unless it's a) a hot topic and b) has enough traffic on it to grant you an audience. You back yourself into a corner then just break out the brainfarts and insults until the thread gets shut and you are off the hook and free to wait for the next one to derail.

However, I don't actually believe you are the spoiled brat keyboard warrior you portray yourself to be on here which makes it all slightly tragic and speaks volumes about your own frustrations.

If you really held everyone in the deep contempt you seem to, surely you would have left long ago to find a forum with people more "on your level". I guess you would have been given short shrift there and told to piss off, though.

Oh hang on. So that's why you are here?
