So Gabriel thinks Trump is the one who is destabilizing the EU.

Good to know it had nothing to with Germany's hard line on Greece for example, or unwillingness to compromise with Poland and Hungary. That was Trump wjho made them do that. Yeah, even the Brexit had nothing to do with Germany not willing to compromise and everything to do with Trump, even though he wasn't president yet.

You just keep on telling yourself that Sigmar. Had Hillary won, none of this would have happened.
This thread is about Trump and it is clear that his visit to Europe was not a success.

Do try to stay on topic

Can we use his exact words, and debate those, instead of extrapolation?

"Anyone who accelerates climate change by weakening environmental protection, who sells more weapons in conflict zones and who does not want to politically resolve religious conflicts is putting peace in Europe at risk," Gabriel said.

Then...

"The short-sighted policies of the American government stand against the interests of the European Union. The West has become smaller, at least it has become weaker."

Do you disagree?
But these are differences in political positioning. It's not the first time that Germany has taken a radically different political path than the US. But friends can agree to disagree but still be good allies.

As far as I know Nato is not an environemntal agency. So i don't know what climate change has got to do with it.

Gabriel is just a waffler who has lost it.

The people to be first affected by climate change, are likely to be in Africa and sub-continental Asia. Certainly, the escape route the African people have is towards Europe, so if we displace millions of people due to making certain African regions uninhabitable, then it is certainly likely to destabilise Europe.

So you do agree that migration can destabilize Europe?

So we have a way of stopping migration, but it only worls if you agree to our terms. But we condemn you for wanting to stop migration?

And anyway we hate you because we wanted Hillary to win.

This in a nutshell is Germany's position towards Trump.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

If Germany was really interested in the effects of climate change, they would have not eliminated Nuclear --forcing them to burn more fossil fuels.

These comments are just political jockeying, nothing more. It's very popular politically to jump on the 'Trump-hate' train (regardless if it's due or not). People need a evil to hate, a villain to feel righteous against. For a while it worked against the 'terrorists', but that group became hard to hate, because religion and racism quickly got tied to it.

Nothing brings together people better than the communal hate for Trump :P

This is a little bit disinegnuous of you. Depends on the numbers, doesn't it. Migration of 1 person isn't too relevant. Europe is already having to cope with migration due to US/UK bombing of Middle East (I would call it destabilising since USA and UK refusing to take their share of the refugees). It has been awkward, but by and large, Europe is just about coping with this influx of around 1 million, so far.

The population of sub-Saharan Africa is 800m people, if just 1% of them seek refuge in Europe, then we have a HUGE problem accomodating them too. Realistically, the worse that climate change becomes, the higher that %age will be, that could be apocolyptically bad.

"Nato is not an environemntal agency. So i don't know what climate change has got to do with it." True, so why are you trying to link them?
The climate change topic came up in the G7 meeting; not the NATO meeting

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Will be interesting to see who is interested in joining the White House staff; usually it was seen as a very good career move but the current administration seem to chew people up and at the same time damage their credibility.

Also there is not so much interest today in becoming a political appointee in one of the Govt. departments; I lost count of the number of people who withdrew from being considered for the FBI chief.

Plus a number of good people signed the "never Trump" pledges.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

This Trump tweet has the world puzzled

Quote:
Donald J. Trump‏ @realDonaldTrump 3h
Despite the constant negative press covfefe
Nobody has yet come up with a good translation of "covfefe"?
Trump is now in bed (I assume) so we will have to wait at last 5 hours (or longer) for more from Trump

Some funny responses listed by the Guardian here

Sounds right so the tweet should read
"Despite the constant negative press coverage.."
But then what?
I imagine some desperate White House staffer was dragging the tweet phone from Trump's hands so explaining both the misspelling and the incomplete tweet!

Trump probably wants to support his campaign promises to create more jobs "coal, beautiful coal".

It is unlikely this action will create more jobs; the market for coal has mostly gone away. Nobody will invest large sums in re-opening coal plants or building new ones especially with the risk in 3.5 years there will be a new US President who reinstates the climate laws.
There is a major move in all countries to renewable energy which will not collapse in the US if the laws change.

You certainly know about the picture of Trump with his hands on an orb, a scene that could be taken from a séance or something. Well, the Nordic Prime Ministers just trolled him bigly. See here for an article by the Guardian.
