Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Growing more isolated and paranoid by the hour, President Trump has started to pick fights with his aides and inner circle, including a vicious, knock-down altercation with Vice-President Mike Pence during an Oval Office meeting.

According to a senior White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the president arrived for the 7:30 meeting on Thursday morning wearing nothing but pajamas, one slipper, and a cowboy hat.

Mr. Pence, also in attendance, told President Trump “you are indecent, sir,” and that he needed to go back upstairs to change because there were three female aides present.

Mr. Trump became enraged, yelling, “Look, you goody two-shoes Christian Ken doll, I’m the ing President of the United States, alright, and I’ll dress, or undress, any way I like.”

The senior official reporting the incident, a woman, then said that the president briefly flashed his “willy” through his pajama bottoms, causing Mr. Pence to quickly usher the female staff members to the door.

When Mr. Pence’s back was turned, Mr. Trump accused his vice-president of maneuvering to take his job. “You’ve been plotting with Priebus to become POTUS from day one, you stupid, bible-thumping turncoat!”

Reince Priebus demonstrates how Mr. Trump likes to dangle his pecker out of his pants from time-to-time — a quirk Mr. Pence observed firsthand Thursday.

At that point, Vice-President Pence turned and approached Mr. Trump in an apparent effort to calm him down. The president shoved him and Mr. Pence shoved back. Then the president tossed both his cowboy hat and toupee into the air to distract the vice-president while he threw a powerful sucker punch that knocked the former Indiana governor to the floor.

As he stumbled backward, Mr. Pence struck his head on President Trump’s WWE Hall of Fame trophy and fell hard, losing consciousness for more than a minute. Observers in the room thought that the vice-president probably suffered a concussion.

President Trump left the Oval Office and returned in a suit and tie about 20 minutes later, after Mr. Pence had been taken away for medical attention.
The president then made this statement:
“Today, Vice-President Mike Pence and I had a very good breakfast meeting. Mike told me that he would like to resume missionary work in Africa, and while I was deeply saddened to hear this news, I’m going to seriously consider accepting his resignation. In the event that my trusted lieutenant does leave for the dark continent, I will be assuming the role of both president and vice-president going forward. While this is an unusual step, it is absolutely necessary to ensure political stability and protect our citizens from bad people. Thank you.”

No statement was issued by the vice-president’s office regarding his medical condition or his sudden plans to leave the vice-presidency for Christian missionary work overseas.

Anybody else notice how nuclear plants kept working and providing full power in areas effected by Harvey while fossil fuel and chemical plants had to shut down.

Source

Wind farms automatically shut off when winds exceed ca. 55 mph (say 90 Kmh) and then need manual checking before restarting which is not so easy when many employees are blocked by flooding and other hurricane after effects.

So which form of energy is safest
Don't confuse safe with consistent. Windfarms can be shut off (according to you even do it automatically) while nuclear plants ......

I agree, not funny. Too high a probability.

Modern nuclear plants also shut off automatically!
A scram or SCRAM is an emergency shutdown of a nuclear reactor. It is a type of kill switch.

Fukushima, marton. Fukushima.
This is why I wrote "modern reactors" which have passive cooling systems (no pumping needed), the Fukushima reactors were a 1960s design which required cooling water to be pumped around after shut down.

The Fukushima two nuclear power station which was about 11 Km away shut down automatically and correctly.

At Fukushima One; 3 of the 11 reactors had problems.

After shut down you have to pump water through the reactors for up to four days while they cool down otherwise you run into problems.

For reactors 1 - 3 the emergency power (batteries and diesel generators) was located in a basement which naturally filled up with sea water and killed the emergency power. Why they were in a basement when the risk was a tsunami is a good question.

If you're talking molten salt reactors (Flüssigsalzreaktor) tell me who built one and where??!
Or tell me who seriously at least has one planned and where?
(Preferably within our life-time).

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

The US Justice Department said in a court filing Friday evening that it has no evidence to support President Donald Trump's assertion in March that his predecessor, Barack Obama, wiretapped the phones in Trump Tower before last year's election.

"Both FBI and NSD confirm that they have no records related to wiretaps as described by the March 4, 2017 tweets," the department's motion reads.
NSD refers to the department's national security division.
The motion came in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by a group pushing for government transparency, American Oversight.

N. Korea have announced they have tested a hydrogen bomb, agencies report a "bomb like" earthquake in the N. Korea bomb test zone but no independent confirmation of the type of bomb yet. Edit - Blast was 10 times stronger than previous tests

Looks like Trump will have to post another tweet?

Edit - Today is a national day of prayer in the US (by Presidential Proclamation) so now they can pray for no nuclear war.

If you think this post is disrespectful of the Harvey victims then take a look at Trump's tweet from Louisiana today showing him driving past cheering crowds!

North Korea has conducted a major Nuclear Test.
Their words and actions continue to be very hostile and dangerous to the United States.....North Korea is a rogue nation which has become a great threat and embarrassment to China, which is trying to help but with little success.

Same applies to the Swiss plants. Planning on the youngest plant, Leibstadt, started in 1964.

To be fair, the first article you posted mentioned that part of the reason nuclear plants are so "safe" is the way they are built. The danger of them having a meltdown during a storm (or at any time) is far worse than having a wind farm stop producing power, for example. That raises the question, should the U.S. try to build more traditional power plants with 12-foot thick walls, etc.?

The question is; do you prefer power sources that continue whatever the weather and continue to keep fridges, freezers and, for example, dam warning systems running or not?

This.

It smacks a bit of "on the job training" but, hey, it's a start. And if it means it builds on his world view a bit better, it can only be a good thing.

Am I being a bit optimistic?
