Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

You have to understand that the American people had but two choices: Hillary Clinton (someone who had an unsecure computer in her home and was receiving and sending confidential emails, a detriment to U.S. security) and Donald Trump (someone who attacks and demeans those who go against his grain). Some people didn't necessarily vote for Donald Trump but they voted against Hillary Clinton. I think he'll be a better president than Hillary.

Everybody who has a computer at home is receiving and sending confidential emails

If you are posting about Classified emails then that is a different thing.
The FBI found that all classified emails on Clinton's server were stored and sent from "unclassified systems", violating the same policies as those on Clinton's personal server.
Consequently all the classified emails on Clinton's server were already in breach of U.S. security policies before she even received them

Thanks for the instruction. It's so hard for us Europeans to figure out what to think.

The press are supposed to be held to higher standards.

So even if someone mocks the press and spits in their face, you would expect a serious press to stick to the facts and not act in petty retaliation.

By sinking to his level they have shown they are no better than he is.

You know, thousands of people are being mocked all the time for all sorts of reasons. The press just ums and ers and says, this is interesting and you have to remain neutral and understand the cirumstances, and they probably deserved it anyway.

But the moment somebody mocks them, it's all out war.

If those who should now better rise to the bait I have no sympathy.
When did the press take responsibility for the accuracy of their reportings? Where? Does anyone take at face value whatever they read in the press...lol. What an excellent vehicle of propaganda of all sorts. Even you have some illusions re. the almighty press. It is extremely powerful, no doubt about it, but ethics has no place in their world.

I doubt you'd find too many instances of them knowingly publishing false data. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Trump takes travel-ban exemption fight back to SCOTUS
Administration gives up for now on blocking grandparents, but keeps battling to stem refugee flow.

Justice Department lawyers asked the high court Monday to allow authorities to keep up a block on many refugees covered by Trump's ban.

Russia organized protests in US on Facebook!
The anti-immigrant protest occurred in August of 2016 in Idaho, the news outlet reported.

Facebook confirmed that it “shut down several promoted events as part of the takedown we described last week.”

The protest in Idaho reportedly focused on a town’s Muslim refugees.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi said following a Wednesday night meeting with President Donald Trump that they have "agreed" to a fix on DACA and resolved to iron out a border-security plan.

Source

Sensible move by Trump while it is clear the GOP cannot deliver his agenda, they are not a united party. More like a coalition of different interests.

I assume Trump is hoping that cozying up to the Democrats will push the GOP together, myself I doubt that because there are too many deeply entrenched views.

Meanwhile in other news it turns out that the sharp criticism from the House intelligence committee chairman, California Rep. Devin Nunes, against ex national Security adviser Rice for "unmasking" Trump people was a damp squib. President Donald Trump also previously accused Rice of committing a crime.

Seems the House intelligence committee have accepted Rice's reasons for unmasking!

I don't believe Trump has much GOP loyalty. He's more interested in getting something done, and has little to show sofar.

Ethics in journalism - of course there is! it's a ridiculous claim to make that there are no ethics in journalism or no ethical journalists. everybody knows that high-drama stories sell more, so who is to blame: the people who buy or buy in, or the news organisations that "sells" us this information?

we should look to ourselves first, and our own motives for what news we consume.

i try NOT to get involved in speculative news and the intrigue of pre-event happenings. the worst one i saw was a CNN ad for Don Lemon show which asked "will the president would be going off script..." and then roundly criticised what Trump said. C'mon CNN you LOVE it when Trump goes off script! it carries your news for days.

I turn off round-the-clock news coverage of disasters, terrorist attacks etc which the news organisations seem to think we, news consumers, like to indulge in (ie drawn and kept watching to the immediacy of the fear).

I do support investigative journalists who try to give us the bigger picture.

i remember a journalist told me once that she and a colleague had researched and written a piece, for a national paper, about species extinctions. The paper pulled it at the last minute to print a story about Britany Spears who had changed her hair colour!

who's worse: us or the news organisations who think we prefer to read about Britany Spears?

Tillerson announces his plan to cut down the State Dept.

Trump announced he wants to cut the State Dept by 30% next year but Tillerson's plan only reduces the staff level by ca. 5% over two to three years so there seems to be a big mismatch somewhere

I think that's just Trump making up numbers when he doesn't know how things actually work.

It sounds good to say you'll cut 30% but it's probably not realistic. Trump has said that he'll listen to his generals and cabinet members, so Tillerson probably told him that 5% is a good start and then they can see whether further changes or cuts need to be made.

You can read foryourself where he wants to slash the budget:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/whi...fy2018/sta.pdf

Just one note, Consular and Border Security has no its own budget and is no longer part of the Diplomatic and Consular Programs. For the rest just think America First and you will find the cuts.
