The federal government’s top ethics officer sent a letter to all federal agencies late last week warning that he is “deeply concerned that the actions of some in government leadership have harmed perceptions about the importance of ethics.” He urged all federal workers to redouble their commitment to acting honorably.
The memo specifically targets actions by “government leadership,” which implies Trump administration political appointees. Source

Is there a better paradigm of the times we live in? | | | | | Imagine sitting in a different seat on a bus as a protest though. What's it going to change?

Do a bit of googling, and I think you'll find that one of the greatest societal changes in America's history arose from just that: sitting in the "wrong" seat on the bus.

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | So, 467 pages in, and as far as I can gather Trump has done the same as every previous president in modern times:- He's looked at the books, shit himself, and spent the rest of his time playing golf. He's had his minor victories, his minor setbacks, but nothing major has changed since he took office. He's not declared war on anyone yet, like many of his predecessors, though I expect that the change at some point. Basically, it's hard to see what all the fuss was about. Butthurt for butthurt's sake. | | | | | Yep, but he still has time.

It is claimed that Trump went to the Pentagon and demanded they increase the number of nuclear warheads by a factor of ten. It was due to this demand it is claimed caused Tillerson to describe Trump as a moron. | Quote: | | | | Officials present at the meeting told NBC News that Trump referenced a point when the U.S. had 32,000 nuclear warheads in the late 1960s, and said that he wanted to have that many now. The U.S. currently has 4,000 nuclear warheads, according to the Federation of American Scientists.
The officials added that they then explained to the president why such an expansion, which would violate existing treaties and weapons agreements, would not be possible legally, nor in the country’s best interest. | | | | | Source
Trump is denying he made this request.
I am surprised the Press have not quoted this Trump tweet from August which tends to support the claim above; | Quote: | | | | Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal. It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before....
4:56 AM - 9 Aug 2017 | | | | | BTW, there is no evidence that the US nuclear arsenal has changed in any respect so is not far stronger and more powerful than ever before!

It would be really nice if the Fake President of the USA would tweet something that makes sense once in a while! See attached from earlier today.
I'd have thought that the former CEO of a large organisation would have noticed that newspapers, websites and even TV channels devote large sections, daily, to financial reporting. There are even newspapers dedicated to the subject.
But more importantly, as has been noted many times, the stock market has been in a constant growth phase since 9 March, 2009 -- i.e. during pretty much the whole of Obama's presidency. The growth of the stock market since the 2016 election is anything but unprecedented!
And finally, if the stock market is doing so fabulously well, thereby allowing everybody who invests in it (and that's almost every American, through their 401(k) investments), why would Trump "need tax cuts"?!* He just makes no sense!
*Except for himself and his personal interests, of course.

If Trump cancels NAFTA then he can stop the growth of the stock market with one stroke!

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | Some positive news about Puerto Rico!
The US Federal Communications Commission has approved Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc’s application to provide emergency cellular service to Puerto Rico through balloons.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico has struggled to regain communications services. The FCC said on Friday that 83% of cell sites remain out of service, while wireless communications company are deploying temporary sites. Source
But as of today only 10.7% of Puerto Rican electricity power customers have service so how will they charge their mobile phones (so 90% have no fridges or freezers or electric kettles or electric cooking)?
And only 55.5% have fresh water. Source
17 days since the storm hit | | | | | Federal officials privately admit there is a massive shortage of meals in Puerto Rico three weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.
Officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) say that the government and its partners are only providing 200,000 meals a day to meet the needs of more than 2 million people. That is a daily shortfall of between 1.8m and 5.8m meals.
The scale of the food crisis dwarfs the more widely publicized challenges of restoring power and communications. More than a third of Puerto Ricans are still struggling to live without drinking water.
“There is no urgency in the government response to this humanitarian crisis,” Andrés (José Andrés founder of World Central Kitchen) said. “They have all the officials and armed guards at headquarters, but they have no information about the island. They don’t even have a map they can share about who needs food.
World Central Kitchen are delivering 90,000 meals per day in Puerto Rico; their contract ended yesterday and nobody knows when or if its contract will be renewed. Source |

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | Another poll!
Trump's popularity is slipping in rural America
According to the Reuters/Ipsos daily tracking poll, the Republican president’s popularity is eroding in small towns and rural communities where 15 percent of the country’s population lives.
The poll found that Trump has lost support in rural areas among men, whites and people who never went to college. He lost support with rural Republicans and rural voters who supported him on Election Day.
In September, 47 percent of people in non-metro areas approved of Trump while 47 percent disapproved. That is down from Trump’s first four weeks in office, when 55 percent said they approved of the president while 39 percent disapproved.
