So there's plenty of ammunition to go after him already without need for this. It isn't deflection, it's a call for balanced reporting. Is it any wonder Trump's campaign against Fake News has gained so much traction?
But this isn't Fake News, is it? So deflection.

Fake news is an umbrella term that covers misinformation, misleading stories, duplicitous or over sensationalist headlines and manipulated or false content, all with intent to damage. The way this is being reported, is treading very close to being fake news.

Says you (or the Trumper)...

"Fake news" is exactly what it says, something that never happened or existed, something along the lines The Onion would publish.

Apparently, Trump invented the term, don't you know

Do you have a source other than Trump tweets for your spurious claim that Trump's campaign against Fake News has gained so much traction?

Meanwhile in the real world CNN and MSNBC news are doing great, see table below.

Au contraire. From Wikipedia. By not reporting on the context of the call and that some media outlets are only reporting Trump said, "he knew what he signed up for", we are entering into realms of the third point below.

Claire Wardle of First Draft News identifies seven types of fake news:
  1. satire or parody ("no intention to cause harm but has potential to fool")
  2. false connection ("when headlines, visuals of captions don't support the content")
  3. misleading content ("misleading use of information to frame an issue or an individual")
  4. false content ("when genuine content is shared with false contextual information")
  5. imposter content ("when genuine sources are impersonated" with false, made-up sources)
  6. manipulated content ("when genuine information or imagery is manipulated to deceive", as with a "doctored" photo)
  7. fabricated content ("new content is 100% false, designed to deceive and do harm")

Fake News has become everyday language thanks to Trump, this is the only source I need. Trust in mainstream media is also at a record low. Incidentally, trust in anything is down.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

I've got to say that much as I despise the revolting toad that squats in the White House, Loz has got a point. The sharing of a conversation of this nature by a third party, reported second hand by the newspapers, is a bit off.

One of the problems I'm seeing with the popular media's handling of the Trump presidency is that every little stupid thing is being reported without regard for context or importance (Nambia, anyone? ), overwhelming the reader with so much bilge that quite a lot of people simply turn off, so when something that actually matters happens, people will just say "meh" and click on something else. We all know the story of the boy who cried wolf, don't we?

I wouldn't be surprised if half the stuff Trump does is entirely on purpose. He's a terrible statesman but an outstanding self-publicist. He knows how to make a stir - who better to deflect from what's really going on in the White House?

But I'm sure the opposition know what they're doing...

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

It is just the rules of entertainment, popularity and public interest. Polarisation is pushed by both Trump and his opponents. Time is the only thing they are playing for. What falls in and out of public interest and how long it stays. He is totally doing everything on purpose, if you ask me. So are media. The difference is, he cleverly won himself an active role, and they had to accept the reactive role. The only thing they can do is fight for popularity by reacting and obstructing. So, to have him constantly labelled dumb, is pretty delusional.

You are starting to believe polls now?

The election polls were invalidated by the actual election results.

Your poll is invalidated by the actual viewing figures I quoted.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

I can't believe somebody is being sympathetic towards Trump. Oh wait it's Loz!
Of course the bigger picture here is that behind all of this is an even nastier but more intelligent man then Trump and that is Mike Spence, waiting in the wings, and that is why the Reptilians, sorry Republicans are rolling with this.

Shall we wait five years for it to enter the Oxford English Dictionary then until we have a definition that meets your satisfaction? Do you have any idea how language works? Google "neologism".

What I'm still struggling to work out is whether he is really a childish bludering narcissist fool, acting more on inpulse than in regard to analysis or informed advice, or whether he is actually a cunning strategist putting on an amazing trolling act and secretly laughing his arse off. Or whether he is actually a mixture of the two.

Deflection!!
Why would I Google "neologism" when I can google dictionary definition "fake news" and get many answers?

Why would I want to use the Oxford English Dictionary when this thread is about the US?

I keep hearing about how clever Trump is at managing the media but the reality is that he consistently has the lowest approval ratings of any US President since they started measuring this stuff!

So how clever is he really?

Or are you saying his popularity would be in the teens if he did not do this stuff?

Edit - Poll shows tied Alabama Senate race, Democrat Doug Jones -- once thought to be a longshot in the Deep South -- has tied Republican nominee and former judge Roy Moore in Alabama's US Senate race, a new poll shows.

The two are tied at 42% each among registered voters, the Fox News poll published Tuesday, conducted by Democratic firm Anderson Robbins Research and GOP firm Shaw & Company Research.

Source

If this poll is correct (which is hard to believe) and the Democrat actually won then this would be a stunning blow for Bannon, the GOP and Trump who won this State by 28 points.

I have never struggled with that idea at all.

I struggle with politicians who try to deliberately present themselves as "an open book", or symbol of something...a token.

The first characteristics you wrote - is human. The second - is a definition of politics or business, which in the US has been the same schtick.
