| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | Would Trump win again? Seems to depend on the candidate he's up against.
..... | | | | | Exactly depends on the candidate and what they can put together as a credible Dem's agenda. Currently both the Dems and the GOP seem to have the same problem that they are unable to get together and have a common view which makes it impossible to legislate!
It is a stupid situation today in the US "greatest democracy in the world". Opinion polls seem to be pretty united that Trump is the most unpopular President ever but in this two party system we have two parties who according to the same polls are even less popular than the President!
Really needs a Macron to come along and start a new party |

| | Re: Will Trump be a Good President? | Quote: | | | | | Big vote day for the Democrats, both Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races turned Democrats.
Also a big day for the Virginia House of Delegates where the Dems have massively reduced the Republican majority from 66 to 34 to around 52 to 48 with a couple of precincts not yet final. In previous elections the Dems best showing was to flip 5 seats | | | | | Dems are now claiming 50 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates meaning 50:50 with the GOP, stunning result if true! Some results are very close so there could be as many as five or six recounts before the final figures are known
Most people were expecting the Dems to win four or five seats at most!

The federal judge overseeing the case against former Donald Trump campaign aides Paul Manafort and Rick Gates has issued a gag order in the case.
"In order to safeguard defendants' rights to a fair trial, and to ensure that the court has the ability to seat a jury that has not been tainted by pretrial publicity, all interested participants in the matter, including the parties, any potential witnesses, and counsel for the parties and the witnesses, are hereby ordered to refrain from making statements to the media or in public settings that pose a substantial likelihood of material prejudice to this case," Source
I do hope Trump will be able to resist tweeting about this case and so avoid contempt of court | The following 3 users would like to thank marton for this useful post:

Merger plans put in doubt due to White House interference by the looks of it. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-41919961
Somehow I doubt that if Fox News was involved there'd be any complaints.
Meanwhile:
"US 'loses 60% of career ambassadors' since January" http://www.bbc.com/news/41921907
With the most telling comment at the end of the article:
"A year after President Donald Trump's election, there are no nominees for scores of unfilled senior posts at the Department of State, according to the tracker by the Washington Post and Partnership for Public Service.
Last week Mr Trump was asked about the vacancies at the US foreign affairs ministry. "I'm the only one that matters," he replied." | The following 2 users would like to thank Medea Fleecestealer for this useful post:

What a difference a year makes! | Quote: | | | | President Donald Trump lavished praise on China for the very trade practices he once lambasted as unfair during a remarkable morning session in Beijing.
It was a notable shift in tone from a President who was elected to office partly for his tough talk on holding other countries accountable for practices that disadvantage US workers | | | | | | Quote: | | | | Trump sought to bolster his image as a hard-nosed negotiator, announcing $250 billion in agreements between US companies and China.
Precise details of the agreements weren't immediately available and many are said to have been in the works long before Trump was elected.
The figures aren't expected to make a dent in the US trade deficit with China. | | | | | Source
Edit - the Trump campaign promise to label China as a "currency manipulator" has long gone!

Democrats are much more likely to get elected when running against mini-Trumps than when running against more reasonable folk (or what passes for that in the modern GOP).
Of course we should not get too overexcited about the Virginia results, but the Democrat candidate was pretty lackluster and he won by a mile despite that. So .... Go Bannon, go! Pitch fork out them boring old GOP candidates.

I know it’s very unchic to state this here as cynicism is the standard format but I am the tiniest bit optimistic that perhaps people are waking up, and that some of the protests in January spurred on some activisim.

I don’t blame China, I blame the incompetence of past Admins for allowing China to take advantage of the U.S. on trade leading up to a point where the U.S. is losing $100's of billions.
How can you blame China for taking advantage of people that had no clue?
I would've done same!

People in the US chose to use their money to purchase goods from China. They paid dollars and received goods in return. They lost nothing; they have goods in lieu of money. Alternatively, they could have paid much more money for similar goods made in the US. Then they would have lost money (compared to the buy Chinese situation)!
For some reason that I've mercifully forgotten, I bought a Trump brand suit many years ago. I still have it, down in the cellar. The "Italian Wool/Made in China" label really makes me laugh now.

As mentioned before many GOP are leaving Congress, see graph below Source
