Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Trump has responded to Theresa May's criticism of his retweets of Jayda Fransen's tweets. The trouble that instead of tweeting to the Prime Minister of the UK he tweeted a woman from Bognor who has 6 followers and follows about 100 people.

So... perhaps his solution to winding the debt down is to declare bankruptcy?

For a guy who claims to know how to get things done he doesn't seem to have actually accomplished much, other than making the few percentage of the world's population who weren't aware of the Trump brand more likely to recognize it.

I suspect that 20 years from now Trump will be remembered as the president that failed so badly that the rest of the system recognized that there are deep flaws in the political process in the US and implemented changes to mitigate the chances of this happening again.
It depends what you define as "accomplishments". If that is fulfilling what he promised when running for the job then Trump is doing OK. Withdrawn from Paris, withdrawn from TPP, getting his supreme court nomination in, decertifying the Iran deal, reducing unemployment and increasing economy growth. He's failed on his wall, and travel ban however illegal migration is down. Healthcare is still ongoing. All in all a mixed bag.

But in the end you have to compare him to previous presidents. What did they really achieve? Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, all US Presidents have done the same thing - played golf and bombed brown people. The Status Quo has by and large been kept. Everyone likes to point the finger a Trump as the problem, but the reality is that he's the consequence of the Obama administration. How's that for an achievement?

Currently in the House of Commons, request after request for Trump's State Visit to be cancelled- and for him to be charged with inciting hatred. And also mentioned by many, the fear that his visit could cause riots and massive disruption to the country- including massive costs for policing (at a time when police budgets are being squeezed).

So playing golf is a common denominator, therefore, we should only elect leaders who don't play golf.

It's funny how it takes Trump for people to realise this. When Obama had been using executive branch to drone civilians for years.

Let's be clear, my problem with Trump isn't that he's got orange hair, is a boor, etc etc.

For the sake of argument... let's play the game in the Trumposphere. He claims constantly to be "winning" you say he's doing "OK".

One of his claims was "Draining the swamp". Which side of the aisle/hill has seen the most charges laid, appointments refused and people stepping down?

We're on the same page vis "Since the fall of the Berlin Wall". If I am not mistaken, Trump has played more golf than his predecessor, and pushed through at best as much change as his predecessors.

So this is... better?

I'll give you this... he's changed the face of American politics. It's too early to tell if for the better or worse.

In my opinion Trump is no better and no worse than his predecessors. The only difference being that's he's not killed so many brown people (yet) and he's got a big mouth and a Twitter account that people get very upset over. He talks a lot, but actual action? I've seen very little of it.

Bush (neither of them) didn't use EOs to bomb civilians, right?

Actually he has only fulfilled 8% of the promises he made when running for the job.

I see why you rarely quote sources

Three of his "accomplishments" that you quote are actually of cancelling things which is a strange way to define an accomplishment and requires very little actual work to accomplish which seems to fit his modus operandi.

Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Hey Loz, another Trump achievement!
Law of unintended consequences strikes again!

CNN president Jeff Zucker said Thursday that President Trump has “made American journalism great again.”

Zucker said that since Trump was elected, the network has seen an unprecedented “bump” in television and digital audience levels.

“CNN’s been around for 37 years, this is the most watched year in the history of CNN on television,” he said. “We’d be at the top if there were global rankings.”

Source

“He is a terrible media critic,” Zucker joked in response to Trump's Fake News tweets.

More from the front!

President Trump’s pick, Barry Myers, to lead the nation’s top atmospheric office (NOAA) said in his Senate confirmation hearing Wednesday (yesterday) that he agrees that humans are the primary cause of climate change.

An old rumour has popped up again
Quote:
President Trump is reportedly planning to oust Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, with CIA Director Mike Pompeo potentially replacing him.

Have you by any chance got some hard data from a reliable source to back that claim up?

It's a typical troll move, the "fake media" thing, it allows him (or you) to discredit any unfavourable claim of fact as a lie, without providing any concrete data yourself.

According to at least one site the US has stopped releasing detailed data since Sept 2017 (i.e. on Trump's watch), at least for Yemen, at least for air strikes (no idea if "air strikes" includes drones or not).

Now, I can hear you typing "Fake news!" before I even hit the submit button, but my point isn't "My numbers are biglier than your numbers", rather that your numbers are not numbers, but rather merely a claim.

As to:
Quote:
View Post

At least we can agree on that. But if his platform was "I am going to effect change" then wouldn't you say that not having actually accomplished much other than ruffling some feathers via Twitter, and firing a bunch of his own appointees, quashing a trade deal that hadn't been fully negotiated (let alone signed)... Wouldn't you say that this lack of change would be one reason to characterize him as a bad president?

From the Trump deleted Tweets archive there is a Tweet below addressed to Theresa May; seems Trump has been intimidating some poor old lady in Bognor who happens to be named Theresa May.

A simple mistake any senile world leader could make

I suppose the world's largest intelligence agencies could not do better

Hahahaha, HOW MANY people triggered by a Trump retweet?! He's trolling you all and you still don't get it.

As an aside, remarkable how many people (I'm looking at you Labour MPs) who are calling for Trump to be banned from the country for retweets who are the very same people who want let ISIS fighters return for "rehabilitation".
I will try to keep it simple!

The White House long ago confirmed that everything that Trump tweets is an official communication from the US President. Got it?

Consequently the UK cannot ignore the US President interfering in UK domestic affairs and fomenting racial hatred!

Just to be clear. Everything that Trump tweets is by definition official US policy. Got it now?

This guy hasn't got his hands dirty in decades, but that doesn't mean that he won't happily delegate the task to some dumb sap. He's capable of anything...by proxy...so don't kid yourself that he's some jovial troll messing with the establishment's heads. Re: Will Trump be a Good President?

Strife in the Senate!

Senate GOP leaders have agreed tonight to roll back $350 billion in tax relief in their tax bill in response to a procedural ambush by deficit hawks led by Sen. Bob Corker. Corker had joined with two other deficit hawks, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), and threatened to vote for a motion to recommit the tax bill back to the Finance Committee.

Corker had insisted on a trigger proposal that would have rolled back tax relief in case economic projections fell short of expectations. But the Senate parliamentarian ruled Thursday afternoon that the trigger [idea] would not pass procedural muster.

Source

You know the joke that a zebra is a horse designed by a committee?
I do not know a good word to describe this tax bill after it completes the Senate design!

Even if the Senate succeeds in agreeing and passing this zebra tax bill they will still have to synchronise it with the House tax bill and then get enough votes in both places to pass this synchronised bill

The joke is that Trump desperately wants an approved tax bill to show he has a legislative victory but Trump is the only one involved who could care less what is actually written in the bill. Trump would be happy with a blank sheet of paper with the heading "Tax Reform Bill 2017"!

I think you'll find Obama was trying to fix the mess Dubya left the country in! I agree that he continued to go along with the Drone bombing, but I think you live in la la land if you think that the POTUS has all the say in ongoing operations on national security. Obama did get American boots off the ground, and it was under his watch that Bin Laden was found. He reformed the Healthcare act and tried desperately to change gun laws. It's easy to sit around and say he did nothing but thats wrong he did a huge amount, and was at least presidential about it.
