And how often is "assigned gender" really used outside of the definition you're ok with? Seems like a "war on Christmas!" style boogieman. I've run around in liberal circles all my life and never heard anyone used the word "assigned gender" as a broad term.

As previously stated, I think you are misunderstanding gender. You can't have a physical gender as it is purely a social construct. At a push, you'd have more luck pinning a definition to mental gender, but even that doesn't really make sense.
